I admit it. I have used backlinking services from the WSO section in the past. The results were at best - mixed, and from what I could tell not very effective in the long run. I used such services mostly as a way to stay competitive because I knew others were doing the same.

Then of course Penguin and Panda, and who knows what's next... maybe Leopard Seal. I don't know. You don't know. Nobody in the WSO section knows either.

What I do know is this... IF you need to be considering any such (black hat or grey hat) tactic, then you must also know (possibly subconsciously) that your product/information/service isn't really worth a nickel. Okay that might be harsh, but let's just say it isn't a long term solution and you will always be prone to having it wiped from the interwebs overnight. There will be nobody to blame but yourself.

So instead of buying link removal services, or new and improved "safe" backlinking services, ask yourself if you really want to play that game anymore and if there is - possibly - another way. Of course there is, because ALL of the very BEST of the internet does it differently.

There are other options for us niche marketers though in online marketing that are long term and not dependent on tactics that Google sees (and rightly so) as spammy or of cash-grabbing mentality. You can otherwise build a full time business around deep thinking concepts such as...

being human (Google likes this)

being original (all the kids share stuff like this)

being controversial (debate creates traffic)

being consistent (be reliable)

being focused (be THE source)

being authentic (you will stand out as true to yourself)

You can easily start this new strategy by creating a brand new page on your blog or a brand new Youtube video. Just think about your CONTENT differently moving forward.

  • Granted, I'm no SEO expert, but trying to game Google with silly autobots, outsources backlinks and whatnot seems to me a lost battle in the long term.

True. Google has given people the keys to the kingdom from day 1 (USER EXPERIENCE). Be the little pig that builds a brick house, not the one that builds a straw house. Either that or stop complaining when the big bad wolf blows it down.
