Hello All,

I hope you will all indulge me here.

At times I here people talk about "Being Sandboxed by Google"

I assume this means that you are put on probation in a sense for what me seem like questionable behaviour.

My real question here is How do you know you have been Sandboxed?

Thanks in Advance -- I am so glad that this forum is here

Seb

    Hi Seb,

It tends to be where you don't even rank for your brand/URL.

So if you searched for yourdomain.com (with the www's) and you don't appear - that is a very good indication.

That is of course if your site is indexed (Use site:htp:/ with (www's) dot yourdomain dot com) in Google to check.

PS - sorry I had to be creative with the links as I havent got enough posts yet!

    Hope that helps.

    John

In fact, the sandbox effect is something you have to assume - there is no information on whether the effect exists at all.

However, this term is often used to refer to a dramatic plunge in a site's performance in serps. New sites are supposed to experience something of this sort after a short-lived "love-affair" with google, but the same effect allegedly concerns established sites engaging in questionable activities.

Don't think of the sandbox as a single on/off switch but a huge bank of 1000's of on/off switches, each representing a single Google search engine algorithm. The more "on" switches your site has the better it will rank.

        Hi Sebulba,

The so called "Sandbox Effect" is just that an effect not an actual place or penalty box.

Google's algorithm uses trust as factor in ranking pages in the SERP. Trust is earned over time, therefore every new page starts out in the theoretical "sandbox". Time is the only thing needed to overcome this effect.

The reason most people these days "feel" they have fallen into the imaginary sandbox is due to the QDF or "Freshness Factor". Google uses this factor to temporarily boost new content onto the SERP so that searchers can find new breaking information.

Many folks mistake this temporary boost that their page has been given as a deserving rank in the SERP. In actuality, the have been given a short term boost that goes away very quickly, leaving them wondering why. That's when their imagination goes wild and they jump to the incorrect conclusion that their site has been targeted for a "sandbox" penalty.

The reality is that they simply have not yet earned that ranking and they must now do the work of promoting their web page to earn the sought after ranking.

Since search engines rank pages, not websites, you can see this "sandbox effect" on each new page you create for your website.

One way to avoid the sandbox is to get an old domain name. Another is to get great backlinks from authority domains. There are a number of WSOs available to help you do that.

one thing to remember if your building links on a constant basis then even if your sandboxes.. keep building them.. for one of my sites i was building links, got sand boxes and kept building them... I re-appeared in the index on page 1 after about a month

When you know you have been sandboxed is when Google starts de- indexing your page, than the other way around. It usually only occurs to webmasters who are in ilegal activity in terms of ranking and sites that has little to no activity at all.
