Hello Folks,

I hope you`re doing awesome!

I just launched my first website and trying to figure out how this SEO thing works. I`m totally newbie to SEO so that is why I`m here now.

All I know is about SEO is you need to hae tons of backlinks pointing to your website. Than I had an idea how to get lots of backlinks...

Here is my idea: There is many sites on internet like AddMeFast.com, YouLikeFans.com etc. If those guys share my website link on facebook is that counts like a quality backlink or its not gonna make anything? I know those guys are using flake FB, Twitter etc. accouts but its does not matter as long as they share my link I think. What do you think about it.

I worked something out. If its counts as a quality backlink than it has to be powerful. Everyday if you go up one of those sites with a flake FB account and hitting likes for 15 min. than you have about 500 points which you can exchange to FB shares (estimatedly 100 shares) 100 baclkinks every day on the biggest social network site and its only cost you 15 min daily. If you do it for 100 days that is 10000 backlinks. Sounds great for me... but I don`t know is it quality backlink or not. What do you think guys?

P.S. There's probably a bunch of spelling and grammar errors
in this post, so please forgive me, English is my second language.

Get a good foundation of knowledge before taking too much action - you have a ton of misconceptions and half truths strewn throughout your ramblings...

I'd recommend Source Wave : SEO Blog as a starting point for your foundation - they have a great section for newer SEOs, as well as a ton of advanced knowledge/techniques/etc.

Repetition being the mother of all skill... practice foundational concepts, stay hungry and keep learning - most importantly, test, test, test... and then take action!

A ton of backlinks is okay, but focus on the quality of them as well ;D

As mentioned above, Alex's blog is good. It's also worth taking a look at Glen's stuff as well. You can get a great deal answered though just by hanging around this forum too.

Those sources you mentioned may give you some social cues, but I honestly doubt they will do very much for you in the SERPs Andrew. I would only do that to supplement an already strong backlinking strategy i.e. getting relevant links from high PR domains and then linking from a variety of other places to diversify the portfolio. Then I would consider doing something like what you are saying. I would also be careful about doing this for a main money site as well. Is this just a small niche project for you or something more serious?

Glad you're headed in the right direction, Andrew.

To chime back in on your original ideas...

#1 - Google is smart at tweaking the algorithm to give certain sites more/less weight... even though Facebook is a massive, super high PR site, Google has "most likely" dialed back the ranking effectiveness of getting a link from Facebook specifically.

#2 - I haven't looked in a while to confirm, but in the past, most links from FB weren't indexed by Google or are "nofollowed" - so the best ranking juice wouldn't be passed (although, I do like balancing with a handful of nofollow links to appear as natural as possible, so they aren't completely useless)

#3 - the law of diminishing returns comes into play whenever you're getting multiple links from the same domain... acquiring links from unique domains and unique domain IP addresses is a much bigger leverage point vs. trying to get a bunch from the same domain

Short answer... no, in my personal opinion it probably won't be that effective... but hey, there's always room for testing... so it could be worth a try to see what's up.

some claims that those number are no longer reliable and not effective, today the most important thing is user intent and experience, along with branding and site exposure. also the domain authority must be taken into account.

In my view do some social media promotion + instead of thousands of links try some tiered link building and have good quality content on your tier1 level links...
