    Free = lower quality... Paid = better quality...

    So, of course, keep your goals in mind, but paid is the way to go in my opinion.

    Finding a quality provider is your best bet - they usually have access to publish on the paid platforms since they do a bunch per month, making it more worth it for them...

    you don't need to have or use all sites in the listings. i would recommend pr webs.. expensive but effective.. because it fills the gap of other pr web sites.

    Just so you know, press releases do not pass link juice. Reference this recent announcement:

    Google's Matt Cutts Says Press Releases Don't Have SEO Value - AuthorityLabs

    So there's no SEO value but still plenty of good reasons to use them in certain markets.
