Google have updated their link scheme guideline. Large-scale article marketing and guest posting with keyword-rich anchor text is now against their ethics. What are we now left with?

Being unique, not being another junk website, creating useful content no one has before, viral marketing, pr stunts, link bait...aka hard work and being a real business, not an affiliate retard.

I thought that doing those type of things have always been against their guidelines?

I'd go with most of what linkbuildr said but I'd refrain from blanket-calling affiliates "retards". I make plenty of money as an affiliate and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I don't think he meant all affiliates are retards, but rather was referring to affiliates who act like retards. Some do and some don't, like you for example.

I'm pretty sure the word "retard" was meant offensively. Not a word that I'd use in that context.

I agree that it was used offensively, but I don't think it was aimed at all affiliates, just the ones that give all the others a bad name by doing annoying things like spamming the affiliate links all over the place and trying to hide them to get commissions they didn't rightfully earn.

Not all uses of retard have to be offensive though. I am not savvy in the technical side of things and refer to myself as a techie-tard.

@Change47. Link building to manipulate ranking has always been against their guideline. But I don't think webmasters can do without it and Google knows this. They usually give specific examples of what they hate most, like doorway pages, keyword stuffing etc. Now they've specifically listed guest posts and I believe they'll be acting on it. Btw, they said massive scale, and the low competition niches I target don't need massive scale GP to rank.
