Hi there,

I am not too sure if I am posting this in the right place. I recently checked the page rank of my wordpress website and it came up as PR1 which means it has dropped within the last year, last time I checked about a year ago it was 3

Nothing is really different on my website and not being a web designer or developer (I am an artist in case you can not tell from my website I have no idea what this means, what I can do about it and if it really matters.

Is there anything I should be doing to improve my website. Everything I have done with the website is just from reading SEO articles online and generally figuring out how to get my it set up myself, probably a bit of a patchwork website.

Any advice on what I can do to improve would be greatly appreciated.

SEO is not only a way to improve your page rank; follow these steps that I'll be mentioning below as they'll omprove your pagerank:
    1. Join Online communities and submit all your new posts there
    Recommended: bizsugar and blokube
Others are indiblogger, inbound and others.
    2. Search for "no follow internal link" and install it on your blog. This will make the links on your blog post no follow thereby giving you more chance to increase your pagerank.
3.update your blog post regually: its a no brainer, at least 2-4 times a week.
    4. comment regually on high pagerank blogs. Backlinks from there are so sweet
    5. Submit your blog post to all your social media and social bookmarking account account after publishing.
    6. Submit to article directories
    Goarticles, ezinearticles recommended.
    7. Finally Guest posting.

That's all I have for you, you're welcome, do this between 1- 3 months or till the next google pr update and you'll see the difference on your blog.

PR is basically completely irrelevant. The only thing its good for these days is fetching a higher price for selling a link or site. I don't suspect your selling any links (or your site) so its not likely to matter to you. What actually does matter is the rank of your specific keywords in the SERPs. Check your target keywords, have they dropped as well? Does your site rely on organic traffic? From what keywords? If not, then it has no effect whatsoever. If you have keywords that bring in traffic (and convert to clients) that have lost rankings then you will need to build more links.

Hi onqdirector, thank you very much for your reply.

I figured that PR was not that much of a big deal for a business like mine, just was worried as having gone down it must mean google doesn't like something about my site.

I believe most of my traffic is organic, I assume that means search engines etc. last month for example 51.3% of traffic was from search engines, 31.7% Direct Traffic and 16.9% from referral (I assume that means links)

My keywords I think really do need going over, I what I tend to do is look up a popular search term on keyword tool and see which has low competition, I am sure I won't be able to compete with the big boys! I know that I probably have many redundant keywords in the site as I started out aiming to do Business branding, logo design etc. Now 90% of my work comes from custom tattoo designs and I think that is because there is such a huge market for it. I do a write up for each project I do Dark Design Graphics | Graphic Design Newcastle - Illustration, Graphic Arts and Tattoo Design in Newcastle Upon Tyne and try to use the most common, popular & Current keywords for each post but this probably means I have a huge assortment of keywords dating back to when I first started! Some which probably have nothing to do with anything I do now.

I think the main thing for me to do is build links as you both mentioned this would be very beneficial Thank you both so much for your help!

Wow, thank you very much Viralwriter! That is very helpful 90% of that I can do definitely get on straight away. The post writing 2-4 times a week will be a bit harder and hopefully something I will be able to as Dark Design Graphics expands! Takes me a while to write a full post!

I actually thought it was good to have 'do follow' links and I am pretty sure I actually installed a plugin in the past to do the exact opposite! I will have to get that sorted!

Thanks again for taking the time to help me out, very valuable advice! All the best!

I wouldn't worry about PR if your site's still ranking and you don't see a drop in your earnings.

What might have happened is that over the year some of the sites linking to you got rid of the links so you dropped from 3 to 1, but if it doesn't affect your rankings then you're fine.

Thank you, that makes sense. It think that is probably the case as the more I have been working the less time I have been able to spend getting links.

      Thanks again for your help!

Page Rank is the secondary thing in SEO, today ranking + traffic is important, so focus on to increasing you website ranking and traffic, your website PR increase side-by-side.

Whatever you do ignore that post by viralwriter. Mostly nonsense. And do not nofollow internal links. That will only screw up your PR on your site.

PR passes through links. You can post all you want. That is not going to do anything for your PR. Find more good external links. That will help your PR.

It depends what you mean by "improve" if you want to increase the PR on your site you need to get backlinks from high PR sites.

If you want to have more traffic you need to promote your site more in places where your prospects may be already hanging around (forums, social media, other sites).

PR is just a number bar changed 4 times in a year but ranking is something different from it.

I quit worrying about my pagerank a few years ago. I had one site that had a pagerank of 4 and it got less traffic than my other site with a page rank of 1.

I used to think. The higher pagerank I have the more traffic I'd get. But it was the complete opposite for me.
