I was wondering what are some of the newer techniques to rank youtube videos well on youtube and google. With the recent updates I have read a bit that youtube has changed up the algorithms for videos.

What is some of your recent experiences that are positive and negative with youtube ranking?

I think you can rank some videos only for few day's in the first page of google after that you will find it in the second or third page.

this my experiences with 2 videos.

Im pretty sure videos rank longer than that.

I was wondering if anyone has noticed how much titles, tags, subscribers, likes, comments, views, video channel size, etc. played a role. Backlinking and social signals towards your youtube page, has that helped ranking within youtube?

I've made good money from YouTube since they began.
My early efforts were not so great, but after many years they rank well and have thousands of visitors. I did optimisation with the titles, description, tags etc and chose the right keyword from the keyword tool. I think they rank well with age though. My recent ones show up at page 1 for videos and I just followed the general optimisation rules for those also. Whatever you do don't go paying for likes, views and comments otherwise you risk your account being removed.

Thanks for the heads up about paying. I hear people fdo pay for likes, etc and it works out and other it doesnt work out. So generally "on page SEO" but for videos sounds like what you do?

I always include a link back to my channel or playlist at the bottom of each description. Youtube seems to like that. A couple other quick tips: focus on one or two main keywords for title and tag/s. That tag is very important. Youtube also likes series. They get ranked higher and more consistently in my experience.

The link idea i will have to try. I havent heard that one yet!

Series of videos is a good idea as well. I think i am going to give a video series a try in addition.

Do you have anything custom on your youtube page like background?

That is so true. I have a 4 part series and one video got ranked on the first page of Google for a very competitive keyword. Video shot to 500k+ views in no time and it's climbing by a few hundred each day now...

That sounds like remarkable results! Do you think it mostly had to do with it being a series or did you do some marketing for it or was this all organic?

Video keywords are the factor involved in ranking your video to the top. Plus the activity like views, likes, and shares also counts. Plus Backlinks play a vital role.

Thanks. Do you think there is a ratio or percentage on the amount of times the keywords pop up in the description//title/tags?

Yes, Backlinks can help you in Google ranking not in You Tube website's video listing.

The backlinking for youtube video ranking is a must. If there a video that is ranking at the first page of the google for the particular keyword that you're trying to rank, make sure that the video doesn't have too many backlinks, otherwise you'll be taking a lot of time to build the ranking to outrank that video.... Good rule of thumb, make sure that there aren't more than "30,000" competing pages in the search when searching in "phrase match". Also, make sure that the keyword has at least 3000 searches for month. Otherwise the traffic will not be that huge and you'll lose more money on the table....

I'm starting to think that things are changing a bit. I've been able to rank for fairly competitive keywords without much effort over the past few years. But recently, I've been a LOT less consistent ranking YT videos.

Edit: Of course, as soon as I post that, I just noticed 2 videos that I've been pushing hard over the past few weeks hit page 1 of Google.

    Who knows!

The best tip I can give that NOBODY talks about for ranking YouTube videos is to name the video "your keyword" when you save it on your computer. When you upload your video to YouTube the algorithm looks at what the video was saved as and uses that as a ranking factor. Not sure how much % it is but I do know it counts quite a bit for on-page and it's something really easy to do that almost nobody does

I've always done this. It absolutely helps.

Is there in particular reason why it is 30,000 pages? Just seems like a random number from the sky.

Thanks for the tip. I literally just read an article that said the same thing. Supposedly it is a fairly important part of the algorithm (important enough to make a difference)!

I have been working on ranking some Youtube videos and sometimes I see some Youtube videos on the first page of Google for competitive keywords with only a few backlinks. I thought you needed a lot of backlinks to get and stay on page one.

My recent experiences have been great.

I have 8 videos on page 1 of google right now. 5 for low comp keyword 3 for mod comp keywords.
This is just for Clickbank mind you. For local lead gen I have dozens of videos on page 1.

For CB those 8 videos only me about 100 hops a day but I haven't failed at ranking 1 video yet.
The biggest tip I can give you is good onpage + software.

When I say "good onpage" I don't just mean the right keywords. I've been using 1000 word articles in all my videos and it gives them a huge edge over the competition.

Then I just blast away with GSA and SB. I always try to overshoot my main competitors videos by 150%. As long as my anchortext is good 2-3 weeks later the videos pop up in the SERPs.

I know another guy who was getting good results with including a 600 word article in the description.
