Should I noindex, follow custom taxonomies in WordPress?

Hello!
I just started a new website that relies heavily on custom taxonomies for categorizing content. I stumbled across this article on Search Engine Journal where noindexing categories and tags led to a significant boost in traffic (even though the actual number of the indexed pages went down).
However, that article only takes into account the standard categories and tags and doesn't say anything about custom taxonomies.
My question is if I do the same for custom taxonomies, will it have the same positive impact? I do not use categories and tags and I already have them set to noindex, follow. I use WordPress SEO by Yoast.
