Ok, so I am looking at my "Resource Usage Details" and I see this:

Notice the:
CPU Usage 90 / 100 %
I/O Usage 1,024 / 1,024 KB/s

I am not very techy when it comes to this stuff. But how is this even possible with one site with less than 100 pages and a few hundred images.

This is a new host I am trying for this new site I built. I use many other hosts and I have never seen this. For example, I host 5 sites with host monster, and one of them has 500 pages, way more images and files than this site and gets around 3000 UV a day. This site gets around 700 UV a day. I have only 3 plugins on it, non of which are crazy resource consuming.

The plan with this host I am using is the basic shared hosting, I know you get what you pay for, but then I am using the same plan with host monster and other hosts, but never had this issue.

Do you guys think it's a glitch or is the host trying to already make me upgrade?... Or am I missing something here?...

Thanks in advance.

Is it a Wordpress site, do you have a plugin that runs repetitive cron jobs?

If you check your raw access logs or even awstats you might see a script being called unusually high. You can reverse engineer it from there. There may possibly be an exploit access files you aren't aware of - the logs usually shows that.

    Let me guess.

You have a redundant quantity of plugins, a free theme, and haven't updated anything in a few months?

In all seriousness, you haven't mentioned if your site is wordpress or not.

If it is, I'm willing to bet you have a ton of wordpress plugins, poorly written plugins, or a "Free" theme that's really poorly optimized.

You might want to reevaluate the needs of plugins vs. the needs of performance.

(How fast does your site load when tested on gtmetrix.com? If over a few seconds, you have a problem).

PS: If your site isn't wordpress, it's still really poorly optimized, but since you're not very tech savvy you might require outside assistance.

If you have Hostgator, you can also ask them to take a look at your logs and help you troubleshoot what's causing the CPU to hang.

You need more than too many plugins to cause a CPU to sit on 90% consistently and his bandwidth throughput is maxed out as well. One visit every 2 minutes is very low. A PHP script for example will eventually timeout so as yukon mentioned it could be something in your cron jobs too.

If you can't find out what is causing it in the usage logs then a quick message to support will tell you what the process is.

Thank you guys for your reply and sorry for not being more detail.

    Yes, it's a WP site.

I only have 3 plugins on it. (Yoast SEO, Add This, Widget Control (lets you hide and show widgets on certain pages).

I am sing the Frank theme, which is one of the lightest and fastest wp themes. It gets 96 from page speed. The theme is built with speed and lightness in mind, so I know it's not the theme.

gtmetrix.com shows load time on average around 1.50s.

As I said, I have many other sites with other hosts, and almost all of them are much heavier with plugins, files, images etc than this one.

Also, I forgot to mention this, I have been hosting this site with this specific host for the past 4-5 months (that's how old the site itself is) and I never saw that before. Just last night I noticed the cpu usage and the heavy numbers.

    Thanks.

You really need to contact support and ask them what process is using your CPU and bandwidth. I personally think it will be an exploit or a hack on your host. A constant 1MB/s means something is constantly running on your account. 3GB of data usage is high as well for a site that only gets 700UV.

Or are you hosting files to be downloaded?

Do like Fraggler said & contact the host support. The WP plugins probably aren't doing much to put a load on the server If non of them are running scheduled task.

    Thanks Fraggler and Yukon.

No, I am not hosting any files to be downloaded.

Yeah, thanks for the advice guys. I think I am going to have to contact the host. Though I hat to do that since the first time I did, they wasted my time 4 days and after 4 days hey finally acknowledged the issue was from their side.

Anyway, I will contact them to see what happens. If nothing good comes out of this, I think I am going to move the site to another one of my hosting accounts or just get a new (hopefully better) host. Thnaks.

Cool bananas. It's best to be proactive with something like high CPU usage on a shared host because many will just suspend your entire account if they're the ones to discover it. I'd grab a backup of your files and database too - just in case.

And yeah, find a new one with better support if past experiences are making you reluctant to contact them. With so many choices available support should be top-notch.

Have you asked your web host about these settings? Just because there's not a problem HostMonster doesn't mean there's a problem with this provider. Are you experiencing any issues with your sites is the real question..
