Google Position Checkers - Issue

My website shows up on the third page on Google when I do a manual search but when I use several keyword checker tools, it says that my website isn't listed anywhere on the top 100 on each different tool like moonsy, search engine genie and another random tool. What does this mean?

I've cleared my browser cache etc so that shouldn't have an effect on my searches.

Should I be worried about whether my website's been penalized by Google?

    Give WhatsMySerp a try?

Is your sight something that would be considered more local like a dental office or restaurant? If so, the location of the proxies making the request probably won't get the location weighting you get when you check locally.

Thanks aygabtu, great tool.. No, I'm not targeting anything locally.

I'm currently ranked at 176 when just about a week ago I was 24 or so. Is this a Google Dance or has my site just been penalized? It's a rather new site, about a month old.

        Hey man,

As you've said your site is quite new so I wouldn't worry too much.

        Try SerpFox.com, it's what I always use.

But just to let you know that you will always get different results depending on what you use because of your location, the different data centers being used, or because one data center is busy.

For example right now I have a site that I created on July 4th 2013.

Google.com/ncr tells me I'm #1 for my main keyword.
Google.co.uk tells me I'm #5 for my main keyword.
And SerpFox tells me I'm #5 for the keyword.

I try not to worry too much about what each search engine or tracking service is telling me.

Just keep up the SEO and you will get to where you want to be.

        Hope this helps.

        - Simon

Since it is fairly new, it could be the google dance. How long was it at 24 and have you been consistent in your link building, or do you build some then take a break of a few days or longer? Fluctuations in your link building can make you rise and fall a lot on a new site.

Thanks guys. It stayed 24 for about 2 days when I first checked it but it could've been longer because I didn't check it on a regular basis.

Yea, I haven't been consistent in my link building. There's a time lapse of about a week between each session.

What I'm wondering right now is whether a link from a penalized domain might have set this off? I have 2 sites right now on a very similar niche, both of them are currently ranked 160-170 when previously they were both ranked about 20-25 and some of them share the same links but from different IPs. It would seem a rather huge coincidence for both sites to be Google dancing at the exact same time, wouldn't it? The link building sessions for both sites are spaced out too.

All that point of view Keyword dancing is necessary and this is not perfected but make sure you check it out manually so that is the best part for perfect SERP ranking.

Thanks I didn't think of that. I've always just cleared my cache for my browsers. Anyway, my rankings are pretty consistent (about 20-30) when I do a manual search on google.com but when I use the online tools to check for my SERPs, they're always listed at 100+.

I'll try to continue my link-building and see how it all turns out though.

A simple answer to your dilemma is to sign up for Google Webmaster. There is an abundance of information that can be retrieved from the tool coming straight from Google. Sign up and you will see any issues with crawling your site, data on keywords, and indexing.

Manual checking can be good and reliable too but for tracking multiple projects with multiple keywords, I use Microsite Masters. I find it more accurate and reliable than any other tools since it allows easy tracking and access to the ranking results for each keywords and sites on Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Also, just continue your link building to keep the link velocity.
