Opps, Should I redirect?

Ok, so a while back I built a secondary specifically targeting one keyword and that site naturally linked back to my primary website. This in itself, one link from my secondary site pushed my site up in the ranking to #1 My secondary site was ranking bottom of page 1 or top of page 2. My primary site dropped down in that ranking slowly over the past 4 months or so. I decided to do send some links in the may of my secondary site as it was not in the first pages anymore. I figured the two must be related.
Apparently I did a bit two good of a job. My secondary site is now ranking position 2 with my primary site position 3. It has been this was for a few days not. So the questions it, should I redirect that secondary site to my primary site?
If I do that, will all of the ranking of my secondary site be passed to my primary site? Meaning since they are ranking position 2 and 3 will they combine to rank a strong position 1? (yp is ranking #1) The other option is to just leave it there and see if most of the traffic continues to pass through to my primary site.
