What type of links do I need?

Hi guys,

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been "out the game" for a while and I'm aware of all these Google updates so I'm just wondering what type of links are best to try and get?

I think guest blogging has quickly become the most popular way to do this, but what about other links like blog comments or article writing? Or are these now seen as "unnatural" or "spammy" by Google?

Thanks in advance

Google has said many times, that they like to serve useful and informative content to searchers. So If you're using original and useful content for article posting, guest posting and blogging then you're certainly going to see good results.

As far as blog commenting is concerned, if you're leaving genuine comment on authority and relevant blogs then they're quite useful as well.

      Best way is

put keyword/niche in Google search -> select "discussions"/"blogs"

And try to get links from these sites, they are relevant, high ranked in Google and you would get benefit of traffics too.

  • You need natural links from related sites. Also, social is important now.

Bottom line, focus on building a great site that visitors will love and the SERPs will follow.

Guest posting is one good technique but you can also go for article marketing (unique articles), citations - any kind of backlink technique where a link is surrounded by a topically relevant text (contextual backlinks).

Another method of improving online visibility and niche presence - and all these things have positive impact on SEO - is getting social signals. Social is an absolutely safe way to get backlinks and traffic, so today it is not something to be missed.

As for blog comments, they are hardly seen as spam if they add some value to the blog itself, even more - if valuable comments are added on a continuous basis, then that's a good reason to contact blog owners for guest post opportunities.

You can opt for guest blogging as it is great way to boost publicity. To keep the things look more natural you should often use nofollow in some of your blog posts.

Good ones. The page should have some metrics - PR, mozrank, page or page authority

Lots of great advice here and a consistent theme you'll hear from true SEO pros is that you need to focus your efforts on creating satisfying content (just wrote about this). If you want to truly build a brand and not just a website you need to earn your links, not build them.

The best use of your time is creating awesome content and sharing and engaging with REAL people on social networks.

Go to your mum - get her searching on google for your topic. Ask her if a page is relevant to your site. If she says "yes" then reach out to that site for an in context link. Actually, get your mum to do it. She'll probably do a great job.

Blog commenting can be effective if your content or post is useful. But it’s not recommended since most blog commenting sites are moderated and can consume more time. Deleted comments could cause negative link velocity and may result to decrease in your site’s rankings. Try other effective strategies like building authority by acquiring links from different high quality domains – web 2.0s, blog posts, HPBL, article directory, wiki, social bookmarking, video, document sharing, etc.

What matters now is what has always mattered in terms of links. Links from high-PR pages. A few of these kind of links will provide your ranking power, and then you diversify your link-building with some web2.0s, article directories, whatever, to keep your link profile looking natural.

For me I still use all kind of backlinking methods only changes i have made after I learned from recent updates are:
    1. No more joining in any public blog networks.
    2. No more High PR links renting
    3. Building Contextual links for money site
    4. No more links from PR 0 site to your money site
    5. Concentrate on Tiered link building instead of all links direct to your website
    6. Last but not least Social Media....

Just please make sure you get guest blogging right. Depending on how you do it, it can be the spamiest technique ever. We're getting an overwhelming amount of guest blogging requests to our blog from guys who never care to read our guidelines and are just completely clueless what the blog expecting from guest authors.
