How important/effective is inner linking?

I was just curious how important/effective is inner linking? I have heard it helps and I had some plugins that did that, but they were so complicated to set up. And then one of them didn't work and I could not get any support from the publisher.

Should I pursue this strategy or not? I mean, how much is it going to help?

    It helps greatly. A good quality interlink structure can massively help giving authority to keywords you'd think were out of your league.

    Some of the biggest sites on the net are built architecturally from the ground up.

    It is important because it will help your visitors gain more value from your site. I'd recommend MANUALLY interlinking so that it is actually going to be helpful to your visitors. That way they will stay on your site longer (which Google likes) and will be more likely to make purchases.

      Yeah manually linking is much better then using some kind of plugin or automation.

      Yeah it might take a while to figure everything out. Correct everything, but in the end it'll be worth it.

    Creating decent internal linking structure for websites is a winning strategy because you will not only tell the audience what sections relate to which categories and or subjects, but since you will be using usually keyword-rich stable text links to connect your content pages to each other, search engines will be better able to reward your website with better traffic because the contents will have finer chances to be reached by the targeted audience when they perform queries, and also you will help your pages get indexed faster.

    Tim, we've seen (and developed) sites with nothing more then internal linking + a couple REALLY trusted outside links get ahead of their niches to some major domination for long time. Of course it also takes authority content for it to work as it should.
