Any SEO downside to Add-On Domains?

The advantage to addon domains is that we can save $$ by connecting them to a primary domain, while it still appears to be a domain of its own.

Are there any disadvantages to setting it up this way, SEO or otherwise?

Thanks,

Hi Kat from a fellow Mass resident I am not very far from you

I used addon domains in the past, and they worked just as well for SEO.

They did save me money when I was pinching pennies.

The only issue I had with them is the flexibility of the host company I had.

I ended using a reseller account for about the same amount of money in the long run this worked out better for me managing multiple accounts.

    hope this helps

Do you use/recommend Hostgator? Something else?

I use reseller accounts they are not much more money, from my own personal experience host gator gives me a few support issues for software.

One place I use is resellerzoom this has worked well for me

Subdomains can rank just as well as regular domains from my experiences.

As long as each site you have is in a different niche, and you don't cross link them you will be fine. Google discounts links that are from the same ip, so it's best not to interlink each of your own sites within the same account. The search engines see this as link spam and will penalize you. If you are building links from external sites on different c class ips you'll be ok.

Yes, if you are having the same IP do not cross link each other. Otherwise it is OK just like main domain.
