how do I get high PR backlinks?

As I need to get high PR links to best promote my sites, I tried, but didn't have a whole lot of success. I got a supposed list of high PR link sites and when I went to the URLs on the list, I could not find anywhere to place links. Places like Adobe and CNN and other places. Even if I could find anywhere on those sites to place a link, the page would not have the high PR of the site anyway.

So what the hell do I do to get these prized links for my sites?

You gotta look around. You won't get links from sites like CNN.

    Here's a few ideas:
    • You could get someone with Scrapebox to harvest a list of high PR blogs for you that you can post on (or scrape them yourself)
    • You could buy/rent a link on a high PR page.
    • You can buy your own high PR domains and link to your site
    • You could find and join a blog Network

    1) Look at the pages in Google SERPs that rank for competitive keywords, use something like SEOspyglass to get their backlink sources.

    2) Filter down to the quaulity site backlinks (domains), then go to Google, change the Google SERP results page setting to display 100 results per Google search page.

    3) Do a site:domain search for the backlink domain (100 results per search) in SEOquake.

    4) Sort SEOquake results by highest PR.

    5) Export the SEOquake results to a CSV file, save it to your offline desktop.

    6) Open the SEOquake CSV file in Openoffice. Start checking the higher PR backlink sources to see If you can get a link.

    7) Repeat.

    Note:
Be picky & try to get the best quality links you can get. Relevancy in the backlink page <title> is golden. Don't spend all year on it, but If you can get links like that, those are the best. Entire backlink site is the same niche is also golden (SEO + direct niche traffic).

Don't mess with pages that have a bazillion outbound links (spammy).

I have a question about that - slightly off topic. How do you get a CSV file to open in OpenOffice with out it being gobbledegook? Every time I try opening CSV files in OpenOffice, that's what I get.

In my example of how to find links I said to change the Google search page results to 100 results per page, next do your SEOquake keyword search, next click the Request Parameters on the SEOquake toolbar. Be careful & don't press the Request Parameters twice, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the 100 Google search results page & wait until all the little question marks switch over to data. Sometimes SEOquake can be a little slow about populating data. If you keep pressing that Request Parameters button on SEOquake, Google will sometimes flag your IP & temporarily ban you from searching Google. If you ever get a temporary IP ban from Google search, reset your modem.

Here's a screenshot of where the download (CSV) button is located on SEOquake.

In Openoffice you have to tell the program what the separator is between columns in the CSV file. SEOquake has a semicolon (;) as the separator.

I usually leave the highlighted separators checked (Tab, Semicolon, Comma), those are the most popular separators used by CSV files. CSV stands for Comma Separated Value.

If you see your CSV file all messed up looking, it's most likely the separator that's the problem. Open the CSV file in a plain text editor (ex: Windows Notepad) then look at the first row & you'll see which column separator the file has, it will be consistent on every single row of the CSV file.

Screenshot below of my OpenOffice settings.

        [edit]
Actually forget Windows Notepad, look at the small text box at the bottom of my screenshot. When you change the OpenOffice CSV separator, it shows you which one will work, the text box changes whenever you check/uncheck the separator box for Tab, Semicolon, Comma, etc...

        Note:
Do not use this for spamming your links. Be smart, create quality links. Exchange quality content for links, think long term.

Find a highly-respected, high PR blog in your niche using Google blog search, etc.

Get on their post notification list, and when they post new content visit the site as fast as possible and drop a quality comment.

This will get you a link at or near the top of the comment thread ... but make SURE your comment adds value!

Well Yukon is good but I have little bit different point of view. In fact I do it little bit differently. The method Yukon described is time consuming. On the other hand if you build 10 relevant backlinks to your website from PR N/A pages and then juice up them then you are going to optimize more than 10 pages per month. Nothing new. All these are old techniques. But very little people agree with me that nothing really changed. Old school backlinking methods are still working and you need to understand basic principle of ranking a site by Google or Search Engines. The principle is get backlinks from...

    Relevant
    High PR
    Contextual
    Non spammy
Dofollow (my recent studies confused me about dofollow and nofollow controversy)

    pages.

What I posted is a single technique, there's probably a million & one more ways to get links.

Anyways, it's a low budget solution & it doesn't take that long to do, that's why I said be picky & only target quality links. A few quality links trumps thousands of junk links. What I posted is also for personally owned sites, not selling links.

The short answer is begin building your own private network or purchase these links.
