Does Google disavow tool work? Can anyone recover from panda/penguin?

I noticed that my traffic for my website started dropping months ago, so I asked around and said that scraper sites were ranking higher than me, they said you have to report those sites with some scraper tool so I reported my site and instead of deleting the site that sole my content they took mine of serp.

I have no manual Penalty, so someone suggested to me it could be an algorithmic penalty.

Now they say use the disavow tool to see if anyone is linking to you from bad quality spammy sites, but they say they want you to first contact each spammer site who is negatively effecting you and ask them to remove links. they wan to see you bust your butt first before you disavow a site.

I have over 20 thousand backlinks, and I have no clue who the hell they area, but I noticed they stole my content through google news. when their is a big event I would have an article in google news and they would immediately single me out and steal from me, most of the content scrapers, some would link back and some wouldn't. So basically google wants us to spend 200 hours going through each link? its like slave labor making us do the hard work while they get paid, instead of punishing those scrapers and spammers they are hitting the honest ones suffering.

I asked around again and people were saying I could be a victim of Negative SEO, a competitor who is in google news as well could have made up some fake accounts and spammed the crap out of me to bring me down and than reported my site as spam without my knowledge penalizing me.

My site was effected badly. Its like they are punishing those who are getting hit by negative SEO without their knowledge instead of punishing the bad guys.

I never heard of anyone who recovered from panda or penguin, this is messed up because my revenue on adsense went down, I used to average at least 20-30 dollars a day now I make 20 cents to 1 dollar a day. I put up original content, I don't spam and am in google news.

I probably put up 3 to 5 articles a week.

here was an article I read about disavow

A good rule of thumb is to start a new site if the current domain seems to have penalty and you have been using links from questionable sources.

Worst case scenario, your old site never comes back and you have saved time with new clean site ranking in your niche.

Best case scenario, you have 2 sites ranking and you're doubling your odds & profits.

Never linked to anyone, I seen my webmaster tools had thousands of sites linking too me. I never participated in any link share, never asked anyone to link my site ever, my site is in Google News for a couple years now.

The one thing I was told was that a competitor in my niche who wanted to eliminate me from the top spot for keywords could have hired someone online to do negative seo to me by linking back to my site from spam sites.

Also my articles are being stolen by scrapers and the scraper is ranking above me for my own article. Some people are posting my articles in their forum but linking back to my site and that forum post is ranking as the top search for my article while my article is no longer in the first page.

I have no clue why I am being punished. All I know is my adsense earnings have dropped and I can no longer afford the server that I used. I bought a hosting plan that cost a lot of money because 2 years ago my traffic was really growing, just this year at the start of the year something happened, my traffic dropped bad.

I could never recover. I never spammed, I don't link, I don't post on forums with my website link, nothing.

Its weird that we can get punished for things that are out of our control, they shouldn;t punish us for people who are posting our links or crap forums, we are not all knowing we don't see everyone or control everyone who takes our links. its just weird to me how google is going about this. They are forcing us to do their job and not even helping us when we ask them for help.

I wish there was another search engine to compete with google that is fair and won't penalize victims of SEO spammers. Problem is google is the big dog they have a monopoly on search, nobody really uses yahoo or bing.

Like Nik0 said, disavowing links isn't going to help you if you have a poor quality website, in my experience. Add content. Add images. Add videos. Make sure the content is the best your niche offers, and then do PROPER interlinking. Then, you can look at which links you want to disavow or remove.

From what I have seen and read online (case studies and other folk's' experience) it seems like disavowing links alone will not do you any good. Google wants to see you making some kind of efforts to show them you are serious about getting your act together.

Most recovery studies I have read that used disavow were successful only after doing some link cleaning on their own (contacting webmasters and removing links, nofollowing links, changing keyword rich anchor text etc).

Now that said, I would also echo what Nik0 said. The above only works if you have a Penguin related penalty. Panda is more about content. So, first figure out what your penalty is before moving forward.

There is no other option to remove low quality back links because this is the only way to remove algorithms penalties.

Does it work? I just read you have to go through all the thousands of bad links and email each one and remove them first. This is BS, some of us don't have the time. Is it true that they will not accept you just disavowing a spam site, you have to show effort? why do we have to show effort if we are victims of scrapers and backlink spammers?

Also when you have an algorithmic penalty does it affect your rank for original content because some scrapers are ranking higher than me for my own original content. This baffles me because wouldn't google know I posted the article first?

Don't get paralyzed by SEO, I have lost years of work time trying to appease Google, and all the time I didn't know what was wrong in the first place. If you have not gotten any warning messages from Google, just keep creating content and it will clear up eventually is my advice.

BTW apparently the disavow tool takes an average of 3- 6 months to work.

Low quality links do not matter, only the bad ones. So long as you have a PR of 0 and above, and no Google warnings, your OK.

Please keep in mind the websites that were linking to you may have been devalued, and that has cost your website linkjuice, this might not be them penalizing your site directly.

thats the thing though how do we know which links are bad? I've sent a disavow list and I hope it doesn't hurt me but most of the ones I sent were just spammy sites like Askives.com

Do we go off of their alexa ranking if they have a great rank does that mean they are good? and don't disavow them?

Also the part that hurts me is not knowing. So I just continue on typing up articles spending hours each day, and let scraper sites get traffic for my articles in hopes that it will soon pass and google will give me a higher rank for my own content? If I type articles it just lets scrapers earn money for my articles, while I make no money at all. See how discouraging it is? This sucks.

The main thing is getting those links removed from the web, google continue to refine and update it's penguin algorithm which specifically deals with bad links.

Victim of negative SEO? Dude, come on...

I can tell you exactly what happened, and it wasn't someone targeting you. You embedded keywords in your press release, published it using PRWeb or a similar service, and now every scraper site that pulls syndicated articles from PRWeb and spins the content to make it look unique has a back-link to you.

So no, you didn't do anything wrong, but man it sure has me thinking about the use of keywords in press releases now...

huh? I don't type press releases. I never used PRweb, I don't pay for links, never posted my articles on other forums. I strictly blog my site is mainly my opinions and I until recently I was getting great organic traffic just posting unique content, now my ranking died and scrapers using my content are ranking above me and some are even ranking higher with a snippet and linking back to my article, and I never permitted them to do this cause I don't even know these sites.

Getting helps from disavow tool is really hard and time consuming process, it would be good if you start a new site. If your site was too big with lots of pages etc... then you may make effort to recover it as well.
