Hello Warriors:

My first E-commerce website was heartlandpetbeds.com. Shortly after we started we realized that we sell more than pet beds. We renamed the website.

We renamed the website pawsandclawspetsupply.com.

I deleted the old heartlandpetbeds site from my Google webmaster.

Yoday I used the Google backlink checker and there are a bunch of links from:

heartlandpetbeds.com ...............my old website.

Why would my re-named site have backlinks from my old site. Internal links maybe. I am at a loss.

Any ideas?

You should have kept the old site intact & used it for backlinks. Relevant backlinks for $10 per year (domain renewal) is basically free links.

there is no way you can have backlinks from your old site to your new one unless they were physcially put there or you did a re-direct. I wouldn't keep the old site online particularly if they share the same ip. Just redirect everything.
