Latest thoughts on anchor text?

Hello

We have slipped a few places on Google and I am thinking about anchor text, in particular getting my keyword in there...which is something I have been nervous about because Google, I had been told, was not keen on it.

To date anything I have written just contains a link back to my home page or another page within the site.

Should I re-think putting keywords in anchor text?

Thank you.

Richard

Where did you read that ??

Anchor text with keyword is an extremely powerful method.

I think Google doesn't like the same anchor text to be spammed around the place.

Write a post somewhere .. make it constructive , add you keyword anchor text and then move on to another site, make another post , different content etc etc Make a few and give it some time .

Feeling a bit nervous about putting your money keywords as anchor text is a good thing....be nervous!! That tells me you are going to do it right. By right, that means keeping your target money anchor text at around 20% of your total backlink count (give or take).

Bottom line, get your money keywords out there....just do it within reason and you will do just fine.

  • Google wants natural link building. That will mean a diverse set of different anchor texts ranging from things like, "HERE" and "CLICK" to your 'naked' URL and also a variety of different anchor texts. The best way to do that is to allow for natural link building, but most people won't do that becuase they are looking for a quick buck rather than a long term success.

Social networking, content syndication, on-page optimization. Get those three things going and you're golden. You can also do some blog posting on RELATED sites if you want.

My advice is: Keep it natural. That means some of your anchors should be just your Keyword, other name of your website or post's title, some other links, that are not pointing at your homepage, could be even "example.com/title-containing-keyword/", some of my anchors are completely unrelative to the keyword like " click here" etc...

Just try various anchor texts - but definitely make some high % (I usually do 70% - 80%) of your anchor containing your keyword + some other words

Use RAW url as anchor text and you will get very good results.

Keep those exact match anchor texts low, e.g., below 20% and better yet below 10%, if you want a long term, penguin-proof money maker.

Remember rankings are dynamic. Some weeks your up and some weeks your down, but it all averages out.

Don't be nervous now, only if the ratio exceeds 50% will Google penalize you

I would try to keep the percentage of the exact match anchor fairly low, maybe 10-20%. There really is no magic number for this, but keep it low to air on the side of caution. Using a mix of brand, url variations, genric, and longtails is the best way to go. Mix it up as much as you can, it's all about diversity.

For your anchor text, make sure to diversify - aim for about 10% exact and partial, 90% generic and domain.

Of course, you have to use your anchor text naturally to get better benefit from your link building effort..

Not only anchor text but also, methods of link building should look natural for better result I would say.

Should use company name / naked URLs as the anchor texts most of the times.

Could do a little of "click here", "find more information" type anchor texts.

10-20% could keep your keyword rich anchor texts (but that too with a LOT of variations).
