Hey guys, looking to monetize my forum for my site that I'm just starting up.

I'm using SMF for my forum and using a free theme. You can check it out at livemorehealthy.com/forum

I was wondering how I would go about adding an Adsense ad like the one you see here on WarriorForum.

Thank you so much!

Problem with forums is that they are lousy for adsense. It's a paradox,
really, for lack of a better word. You want active users and lots of 'em.
Problem is, active users become immune to ads. I would sell
rotating banners or something similar. Or use it for backlinks, email list,
    etc.

There are plenty of free ad managers you can add to that forum
script. If you login as an admin, you can actually update and install
them right from there. Takes a while to get to know your way around.

Very easy to edit header and footer, as that also is part of the admin
panel. You can add them there.

But if you relly want to make it on adsense with a forum, you need
a lot of traffic to surf in, then click out.

WF does not use adsense. Digitalpoint does.

You also run the risk of people putting content that is against the
TOS of adsense. I see a lot of HUGE forums get away with it...
but I never judge adsense TOS by what someone else does.

What if someone posts something about how they love to smoke
    pot?

Thanks a lot. I'm not expecting to make much but it's not big enough to have someone want to buy a ad spot yet so have to use AdSense for now. I just downloaded a mod and will try it out. Thanks again

IMO you would be better off selling ad space like Warrior Forum does, this way you get paid upfront, control 100% of the ads/advertisers, & can rotate banners/links as needed to optimize ads.

I just started the forum though. Do you think anyone would be interested in purchasing an ad spot from it?

        Need to have traffic...

The more traffic you have the more you can charge for ad space. You could start out with a really low price for ad space, then charge more for ad space after you get more traffic.

Another question. How do any of you drive users to your forum? I'm thinking I'll post the link on some other forums but I know that is generally frowned upon.
