Question about expired domains for PBN purposes.

So I'm looking to build a PBN.
I bought a couple of domains with PR of 3 & 4 respectively, and I paid $10 for each.
I installed wordpress and threw up some thin content and put one OBL on each blog.
These domains have just a couple of backlinks each, but after a few days the target sites I pointed the links at shot up in rank an average of 45 positions.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening without a substantial backlink profile and if they appear to help rank the sites why using these types of domains would be bad?

Hi, its the link juice coming from those domains you bought that made you shot up into the rankings. Remember that Google rates a website through PR therefore in the eyes of Google, those sites you bought have a value. Try to check the citations flow and trust flow of those domains, if the results give you a number then its still credible sites.

Regarding your question about why using these types of domains would be bad... It's not bad to use those domains provided that the web hosting of the domains are different. If search engines finds out these sites have the same class c ip address with your money site then they wouldn't see it as natural links - causing Google to look down on your money site. Solution? place them on a SEO-hosting website.

I ran them both through majestic SEO and there is no trust or citation flow for either.
I've owned these sites for months and they still show PR 3 & 4.
I just wonder why they're working so well.
Maybe when Google updates PR they won't work any longer?

They already did update PR. They updated it yesterday. And again today. They'll do it again tomorrow. They update PR constantly.

    Did they pop up from

    785th to 745th or from 45th to 1st?

Yes this is a very good question pertaining to the topic. I also wondered why did it happen when you said you have checked on Majestic SEO yet they don't show up some good results.

There IS something in those domains which made them pr 3 and 4.

I have bought many of these high pr expired domains and yes occasionally they do loose there pr after an update I find that I can change them to any topic I want and submit an article to UAW pointing to it and it keeps all its link juice.

If you are smart about building your network these are very safe backlinks to use and get rankings with.

One site went from page 6 to page 2, the other went from page 8 to page 4.
Same keyword, about 500 searches a month.

The problem with all of that is that moving up can happen for a variety of reasons. Shucks in some serps PR zeros and web 2.0 can do that.

No backlinks to speak means it has no PR4 juice. Unfortunately the market is now FULL of domains with PR that have lost all their juice but still show it in the toolbar because Google has not cared to update it and probably will soon stop showing it forever soon.

correction....There WAS something to those domains. As mikef suggests above PR is updated internally at Google everyday. The Toolbar Pr is just a periodic update to the public. It is NOT what google uses to rank sites.

This would get more clear in next pr update, lets see if pr stays on your expired domain name.
