Dear warriors,

when doing a keyword research, let's say you go on google and type in XYZ keyword.

There's always a small menu appearing with suggested keyword that people apparently search for that term, let's say XYZ ABCD and the list goes on.

However, it seems like some of the suggested list of keyword here doesn't have any searches done monthly according to the google adwords keyword tool.

If it is in the suggested keyword drop down list, my guess is that it's much be searched quite a bit in a month.

How precise then is google keyword tool and would you personally go after a keyword in the drop down list of suggested keywords even if Adwords says it doesn't have any searches?

There are many keywords that can drive a little bit of traffic to your site on a monthly basis yet they will not show up in GKT.

While I wouldn't "go after the keyword", I would plan a long article that takes into account the suggestions.

For instance, if you input "women shoes", google suggests sizes as additional keywords, so I will make sure to incorporate a selection of sizes in my website. If I type "women shoes a", google suggests "women shoes at target", ".. at sears etc". So I might include products from target, sears and link to them as affiliate, if that's what I want to do. If you input "women shoes b", then google suggests brands, blog, black, bare traps - so obviously my "women shoes" site should have a blog, have different colors selection and types of shoes.

This is how I use the suggestion tool. While I don't particularly target the keywords there, it makes a lot of sense to incorporate in a way or another into your website and have a chance at getting that long tail traffic.

You'll see traffic coming in from keywords you haven't intentionally targeted and don't even show up in GKT. There are millions of them out there...

Gabi, your answer does make lot of sense. While number of searches are probably minimum, like you said it add up with time. Thank you for your input.

This whole keyword search volume addiction makes no sense for many years

The keyword tool/suggest is only a reference to start

It has always amazed me how especially new marketers think they can find some keywords with decent search volume plug it in and think it will produce results

My biggest paydays have always come from keywords not even showing up in either tool

What I have found is that Google very much has a trust factor built into their algorithm

I have built many a site monitored which keywords visitors have found me under and very few times have matched the content on the pages

But over time they might depending upon if your visitors are finding something worth while

Once Google sees that your site has some authority for the keywords they are sending you traffic the diversity of keywords starts increasing for visitors finding you and many times the actual keywords you targeted will become reality

Well new marketers are taught as a start to search for a keyword that gets a certain amount of exact match searches a month. Then of course research the competition.
