The Google keyword planner is so-so, I never liked the Google keyword tool to begin with, it didn't give me enough longtail keywords and it didn't give me the information I really wanted.

As far as "free" tools, there aren't really any out there that I think are powerful enough. You can check out tools like Keyword Country, Wordtracker has a 7 day free trial offer, Brad Callen released a tool called Niche Finder which isn't bad, Keyword Discovery, some people like Market Samurai (I've never liked it), and others like Long Tail pro (never used it).

If you're looking to spy on your competition one tool that some Warriors use is Spyfu.com

Here are some free tools you can play with:

    http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html

    http://www.keywordcountry.com/ (free trial)

    http://www.keywordspy.com/ (free trial)

http://www.semrush.com/ (gives a whole lot more than just keywords).

There are plenty more, but those should keep you busy.

It really depends on what you have in mind. Are you looking for keyword research tools?
Some good ones are longtail pro, brad cullen niche finder and ultimate niche finder.
    Hope this helps

Try to use Niche Finder by Brad Callen.

This is absolutely a good SEO tool. The only downside is that you can't have this for free. You will need to buy it first before you would be able to acquire it. This software would give you an analysis on how competitive a keyword is.

I don't know why a lot of people are looking for an alternative to Google Keyword Planner. I really did not like keyword tool before but I think Google Keyword Planner is doing a good job. (Well, for me, at least.) But if this helps in any way, I heard WordTracker is a good one.

Short answer: Just get used to the keyword planner.

There are probably a handful of good alternatives to GKP. The one I use is Ultimate Niche Finder. GKP finds just 200 keyword per search, UNF finds me 800.

However, it all depends on what your goal is. I'm using a keyword tool for SEO.

If you're using a keyword tool for PPC, then GKP is probably enough for your needs.

I totally agree. I have been using Google Keyword Planner ever since and I have never had difficulties with it. I get accurate keyword research. I see my friends using other keyword research tools but I still think that GKP is the best. I also do not know why they can't convince me to use alternatives.
