Would you agree that:

On a general level,
Social = creating content for traffic ; links are the bonus.
SEO = creating content for links ; traffic is the bonus.

People talk about how Social is going to make SEO redundant. I strongly disagree. They will become more integrated. You are already seeing "search" tabs appearing on social platforms, Pinterest for example.

I think Social will carry an increasingly bigger weight in SEO in the future, but never overtake it.

Thoughts?

    The problem with the social only crowd is they ignore the very word "social". When people get down to researching for a purchase, health, education or money they look to authoritative sites not to "Melba Jean" in their "circle".

    Socialization and research are two different human activities.

    This is crap. Traffic is not a bonus. Traffic is the goal. Traffic is the whole reason for building links.

    Other than that, I agree with the premise that social sucks.

    It will always come down to monetization with me.

    Social is fine, but you either have to have a seriously engaged audience that will buy purely on your recommendation - or you need very general methods of extracting money out of the social crowd.

    SEO, as stated above tends to be a more analytical crowd. They are looking for answers and information, opinions generally come second although they are still very useful with this group.

    So - what type of site are you good at building? Pick your traffic source based on that criteria and I feel the debate of superiority of either becomes mostly mute.

    Both can drive email lists pretty well though

    SEO and Social both have their own importance. SEO will help the website to increase the presence of the website in search engines and Social helps the website in creating Brand Identity. Social gives us the platform to communicate with your targeted audience. Its gives real time feedback about our services and products, gives us an idea what visitors thinks about our Product/Services, how we can improve and we can focus on lot many things by analyzing social media account. SEO helps the website to grow organically, for any business Search engine Rankings plays an important role for generating traffic to any website.

    In my opinion both are important and while promoting any business one should focus on SEO as well as on SMO.

    SEO is for a LONG period while Social Media sites can help you get THOUSANDS of TARGETTED visitors, but only for today if you can get my idea! It depends if your product will be available for example after 2 years (if yes, then SEO is a much better way to make your website popular!)

    Social makes a businees to reach their targeted people, to make brand popular or even building reputation online by how much people like their facebook fanpage, how much following them on twitter etc..But Business will not only become successful by liking,following,it needs to reach every people,in every country,in every area..seo brings business that popularity for long term..seo brings people to a business and social shows the people that business' popularity..
