    If you are willing to get some backlinks, get rid off blog submitting to various directories. It was valuable before but now it is totally worthless shit to do or waste time. I would consider to make backlinks from forum sigs. That would be totally white hat and no risks.

    Use only guest blogging and Article marketing. Just be sure to use UNIQUE content and RELATED blogs to post your articles! Social bookmarking is a good way to make your INNER pages popular and get a good rank for them too!

    As you are going to promote your blog then blog commenting would work as you would be able to get blog commentators on your blog too. You can use guest posting too.

    blog directories good but not so much. you can build other types of back links for your blog like article submission, some high quality forum links, some guest posts. also you can create some web2.0 for your blog.

    To get more relevant traffic to your own blog, forum signatures from relevant forums are a good way to go. But I would also suggest that you should try Google Alerts. Just type in any keyword in the search query, and set results to "Blogs". Once you receive new alerts, just go to them one by one and comment (if email and URL are enabled on their comment section).
