The end of the review site?

hey Warriors,

I've got a review site called Money Makers Reviewed which reviews UK 'How to Make Money' products.

And there's one review on my site thas been pulling in on average $400 a week but in the last couple of weeks my rankings have dropped - not just for this review but for all of them.

So I got in touch with a guy I know that offers professional SEO services to see if he could help me boost my rankings.

This is what he had to say;

"Unfortunately, no can do. Since Google Penguin's latest update on May 5th, we're unable to work with anything affiliate based. There's just no chance of getting them to rank well at all. Any short term results achieved will be for low quality keywords or brand specific keywords ... eventually, they'll be wiped out as well. Google's way of thinking is that Affiliate sites have nothing to offer their visitors that they couldn't get from the original vendor in the first place. Sorry mate ;-("

I applaud him for not just taking my money but would you say he is correct?

My thinking is that an honest review is a valuable commodity, maybe not in the eyes of Google...

What do you SEO experts reckon?

Ben

    Joke, Joke, Joke.

Affiliate sites, review sites are here to stay.

I have 30 sites . mostly review sites which are doing good and continue to do good since last 1 year or so.

All this is a complete myth.

I have people who do seo for my review sites for like $200 for 4 keywords and she does a good job.

If what he said was true - it would mean no reviews at all ranked anymore. Clearly, that's not the case. Dude is a wanker

i think if you type "product name review" at google you still see site there at page one that review that product.. so i think review site still can rank at google page one.. Maybe "his method" not working for review site..

Yeah this affiliate bashing is going a little far now I think. I mean every garage forecourt, supermarket aisle is an affiliate store. Hardly anyone sells their own product anymore so whats the big rise against affiliates and people making money from marketing online.

It will go full circle as all these huge companies will tighten up so much it will hurt their profits. I mean nobody wants to watch a tv station with adverts but it's how they make their money. Google can only please the searcher so much while offering a free service and eventually this will all turn around I think.

Maybe it's time for me to launch my search engine

I know Google has tightened up over the years but you will still see reviews in their search results. He may be talking about review sites that only have pages of reviews and offer nothing else. If you have a site full of affiliate links and no other external links then Google could see this as a site that's sole interest is to make money, not help its readers.

On the other hand I don't think Google would want to devalue any quality page regardless of whether the site had a lot of affiliate links on it or not.
