How Do you Remove Random String from URL

Do random strings at the end of URLs hurt you when it comes to SEO? For example, domain.com/product?start=40&start0 instead of domain.com/product

This type of string is randomly generated depending on how you get to that product through navigation.

Also, is there a way to hide this string from appearing in your URL?

Thank you in advance!

It hasn't hurt any of my sites, even tested both and the still perform the same.

Good to know, however i have multiple versions of the URL now. Isnt that creating duplicate content throughout my site?

Multiple urls like that are not a problem. It's not duplicate content
in the seo sense of the word.

Every site that logs visitors, page views, items, time, date,
referring page, etc. will do that. Like amazon.com. Many sites
use session logs, which are much of the same thing.

SEO Yoast plugin has an option to get rid of those question mark variables.
