How to tell if you were hit with a Panda/Penguin Penalty and how to Recover?

I remember in 2012 at the tail end my site received a record high traffic for a single keyword in its niche. I had 5 articles up that day that were in Google news. I earned a couple hundred dollars on adsense i was stoked.

A few days later when I was publishing some articles on follow up first hand reported stories from my bloggers we no longer ranked high for that keyword, now we rank at page 300 for that single keyword.

Every time we post up a new article and do a title specific search the article will not appear on the first page, but on the top of page number 2 of google search.

Scrapers will also outrank us with our own content even though many of these scrapers are linking back to us as the original and only post a excerpt they are out ranking us and on the first page.

Our website is 7 years old and much older than the scraper sites, in fact 3 of the scraper sites are just forums and round 1 to 2 years old only.

So that Domain Authority aka AGE requirement or seniority that google claims is out the window that doesn't mean much.

I know many people say Negative SEO doesn't exist, but could it be possible a competitor in my niche who was mad that I was ranking higher than them reported my articles as spam with multiple dummy IP's and accounts? and that it could penalize us?

Like described here about reporting competitors who you feel are spamming google didn't realize thy could have opening up a way for negative SEO with this because there could be a lot of fake anonymous reports just to bring you down as spam

Also can a lot of 404 not found pages or pages you deleted from years ago trigger a algo penalty and lower your ranking?

Is this a sign of an Algorithmic penalty? How does one recover or is it impossible at this point and one must start from scratch with a new site with the penalties awareness in mind?

In order to tell what algo you were penalized by, you need to see what date your traffic losses corresponded with algorithm updates.

You can do this manually using your Google analytics and Moz.com algorithm updates.

Or you can use this: Panguin Tool | Technology by Barracuda Digital

This tool, which i recommend, connects to your analytics and you can see when traffic goes down and if it corresponds with updates.

How do I get a google analytics isn't that only for those who advertise with adsense through adwords?

Also my site was hit the day or two after I had a huge traffic spike and earned the most I ever earned on adsense for a day. I think it was around December of 2012 just before 2013. My traffic died drastically, i noticed a lot of scrapers sites copied my articles from google news because the the search was popular.

All you need is a Google account (Gmail, blogspot, etc...).

Its a bit late now, because you already need it installed to run that software.

Check your website traffic statistics, if you have some, if you dont, guess the rough date in which your traffic went down.

Then compare with google algorithm dates here: Google Algorithm Change History - Moz

    thanks

    Panda #23 -- December 21, 2012
I was hit around this time my articles no longer get good ranking for the top keywords in my niche.Right before the Christmas holiday, Google rolled out another Panda update. They officially called it a "refresh", impacting 1.3% of English queries. This was a slightly higher impact than Pandas #21 and #22.

Anyone know how to recover? What is weird is I am in google news and it seems I cant even get a good position in there too, its the same two sites getting top spot in my niche they just keep spamming too they will post like two to three articles an hour and always get ranked at the top, does google news use the same type of algorithm as panda?.

I noticed the day I made the most money on adsenes around December my backlinks increased. What my guess is around that few days multiple scraper sites copied my google news content and kept linking to my site because they were trying to get traffic for a popular search trend that few days. Could this have triggered a panda or penguin red flag?

It seems we are getting punished for thinks out of our reach how can we control people who link to us, its like google assumes we are asking these spammer scrapers to link to us, when many of us don't even have contact with them they just scrape or stuff and it probably causes an unnatural links alert or duplicate content alert.

mate you gotta really think, is it worth trying to recover or start over. New Stats show only around 7% recover. All that work.. and you may not get anywhere.

yeah it sucks. The people working the web spam department are just messing everything up they keep changing it screwing up different websites which aren't spam. i mean of the millions of honest sites how many actually know about the php coding? most just buy a website and blog.

They don't know who is scraping or stealing their content, its lame that google isn't doing their job they are forcing others to do the job or them like free manual labor while those working the web spam team get paid good salaries.

The worst part is they do not tell you exact reasons to help you and when you go to their forum their employees will attack you, I seen them even attack credible sites who were complaining of drop in serp and they blamed them its like a cult google can do no wrong. The help forum is more like a scold forum where you go there for help only to get attacked.

There's a reason Google doesn't do hand holding for SEO, everyone would pump them for detailed algo. info.

Don't take the SERPs personal & remember for every position your own page moves up the SERPs, your making someone else with a legit site have a bad day (dropping in the SERPs). It's just part of the business.

it makes sense but it also sucks for people who are not spammers who get content stolen from them. Most people who blog have no clue about whats going on with these updates and are suffering.

I was hit by panda in the month of may this year. Due to duplicate content due to replytocom links on my wordpress blog. I have done everything right. Now, I want to know that how much time would it take to Google to get out of my site?

    For people with penalized domains.

get a new URL, and create subdomains.

301 redirect your Penalized domain straight to the subdomain name.

    Example Camera.newdomainname.com

Enjoy a month of ranking the same as your old site.

    Then feel the penalization.

Now Switch to a new subdomain name

    Camera2.newdomainame.com,

301 the penalized site again.. enjoy a month again then change subdomain again when penalization catches up. rince and repeat

    Thats just a temporary fix

It will just make it worse if millions of people do this.

I am not a spammer, and I host a blog and news site not trying to make multiple spammy sites man.
