Using articles from other sites for web 2.0 properties

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of creating some web 2.0 sites to link to my money site. My plan is to write a welcome post, then have three or four other articles on each site, with one of those articles being about my keyword that has one or two links to my site. I'll also include youtube videos and and one or two links to other high authority sites.

My question relates to these other articles, which are essentially filler (they're just there to make the site look more legitimate). I've found this site:

Brandpoint Content - Welcome

It has tons of copyright free articles that you are free to publish on any medium (I'm not really sure what's in it for the site or the authors). The articles appear to be well written and cover a wide range of topics. I'm wondering if I'll be penalized for using this content on my sites. Obviously there's no copyright problem, but I hear a lot of people talking about unique content these days so I just thought I'd ask before going down this route. It would save me a lot of time.

Well, are you going to copy somebody else's content and paste it into your site?
Or you're just going to anchor a keyword of your own content to another site?

My personal take? I will never copy somebody else's content into my own money-site even if I have the owner's permission to do so. It's good that you liked the style of those articles you saw. Have you considered just using that site as a reference to the kind of style and tone you need just in case you decide to write the content on your own or outsource it to reputable writers?

That's what I did to my domains. I hired a group of writers almost a year ago.

Hi Cobaki. I'm in total agreement. I would never use someone else's content on money site. I was talking about using these articles for my web 2.0 sites that would be providing backlinks to my site. All the content on my site was either written by myself, or stuff that I outsourced and then edited to make sure it lived up to my standards.

I personally would deep spin or total rewrite the articles. Or both. Why? Some people say duplicate content is a myth (outside of having duplicate content on your own site). They call it Syndication. Fine and Dandy. But if you do that, google would rather see the source of the article mentioned somewhere at the end. Even so, even if they have no problem with "syndicated" content, it will most definitely be considered adding little to no value, and as such might devalue the links on those posts, or raise a red flag. Don't want that to happen.

Also, some web20 site owners have a duplicate content filter that if they see your content is found out there somewhere else, they will delete your account. The articles from the site you mention are all over the net. Don't want your accounts disappearing either
Yeah, this is exactly what I was concerned about. I think I'll take your advice and spin/rewrite them. That will still save me some time over writing them from scratch and I won't have to worry about duplicate content.

      Thanks for the advice guys.

If you want a bunch of duplicate content pointing toward your website, sure? I wouldn't want it. In terms of effort it is probably more beneficial to write something high quality that will stick yourself rather than post content that has surely been used hundreds of times.
