Im having a hard time figuring this out.

Ok lets say I am in the diet niche and my main site sells a diet program. And lets say I write a bunch of articles for that site also to target certain keywords.

So lets i write an article titled ABC and i publish it to all the article directories.

here is my question.

In the resource box do i link that article BACK to the original article inside my site OR do I link it back to the main site where im trying to sell my prodcut.

The part where I am confused is obviously I want the article on my page to rank in google for the ABC keyword so i would want to link it back to the aritcle and not the main page so it has all those backlinks. BUT if someone JUST got done reading my article on ezine articles why in the heck would they want to be sent RIGHT back to it on my site just to read it again?

So if i link to my main site then i wont be building any backlinks to that article on my stie and therefore how will i rank for that keyword?

Dude i hope all that made sense!

I think it really depends on what you want to do as far as getting just sales from your articles or getting ranked in the SERPS. When you are link building it is very important to vary your anchor links with different anchor texts and to different pages on your site. You don't want to always have the same keyword anchor always going to your index. When you think about building links you want to think of how "natural" it is. If you write an article and get people from blogs to link to you they will use different anchor text and some may link to your index and some may link to your article. An effective link building strategy will take this into account and vary your links. But, if all you want is sales from these articles directly you may want to just link to the sales page. You could always write articles that are just for this purpose and other articles that are to build links.

That helped me a lot. So im thinking. Would this make sense?

I always submit to ezine articles manually so maybe with that submission I will link abc to the index. Then when i use my submission software submit your article I will link all of those to the actual article on my site under the keyword abd which is just a variation of abc?

      does that sound right?

Yes, it does, I always include 2 links in bio, 1 is to my home page the other is to the actual extended article on my site. But the main thing is to vary your keywords, Google will think it's un-natural for you to have 300 backlinks for diet, however thinks it's natural for; lose weight, weight loss, incredible weight loss, that sort of thing.

I never use the same article which I submit to directories on my site.

I always use 2 link in resource box, 1 linking to my homepage and another one linking to related article on my site.

You can have a banner or clickable image/link to the diet program displayed prominently at the top of the page, the article below it and another link to the product page at the bottom of the page. So the first thing that visitors see when they visit the site is the image to the diet program. If they want to read more then they can then read the article and then click the link at the end of the article.
