Hey all

This was something explained to me 2 years ago regarding a site we wanted SEO to be performed. Please let me know how exactly this works:

For example:

Lets say we have a site offering luxury hotel rooms for vacations. When doing the keyword research. They found out that luxury hotel rooms and all the other keywords they planned on using, don't have sufficient global searches. Some are decent keyword with decent traffic , but not enough generate huge profits.

The SEO company advised we also use other keywords that are relevant.. but not exactly in the sense of what we offer. For example , he said to target a key phrase such as "cheap hotels" because it has massive amounts of global searches. With that said , we can now add content mentioning "this is not a cheap hotel" in order to make it relevant to the key phrase and generate massive traffic from the key phrase "cheap hotels".

Hope thats not too confusing guys

Logically to me, this makes sense, but won't this generate the wrong type of traffic? If I rank 1st in Google for "cheap hotels" but im offering "luxury hotels" won't that lead to massive traffic but dramatic bounce rate increase and decrease of conversion rate?

On the other side though , it looks like the site will have better exposure, which can also generate sales.

How does this work exactly .

Thank you

I have no idea what Google is up to these days, however this is what I think would happen.

Maybe in the short term you will get a burst of visitors by doing this, but over the long term you will possibly see a decrease in conversions, back links, and future revenues, due to Google decreasing your relevance score, and not sending you enough of the right kind of visitors. You would have already burned through and wasted the visitors they did send you, and you might get a lowered allotment of visitors in the future.

In the old days you could get unlimited visitors based on relevance...but that was a couple of years ago now. Be relevant.

Also ranking for "Cheap Hotels" would normally be very difficult, I don't know how they could even get you on the first page for that long term, now if you had "cheap hotels on poipu beach kauai" or something I would understand.

Well its not irrelevant ... and I did mention that main keywords will be targeted as well as the "irrelevant" ones.

I want to know more about the strategy. Whats the benefit of doing this ? or is Google so sophisticated right now that it can determined that "luxury hotels" has nothing to do with "cheap hotels" . Therefore my site will not rank for this key phrase

Nobody searching for a $100 a night cheap hotel is going to spend $700 per night If that's what you mean by targeting the wrong traffic.

Picking up relevant keywords/traffic is a good idea but it has to make sense.

Yeah it makes sense.... people looking for cheap hotels will visit your sites (since its ranked first) but won't purchase anything.

I got the main idea of it .. thanks

Keyword relevancy matters a lot if you are targeting particular keywords. You can rank for cheap hotels on #1 position but what if your site is not providing cheap hotels. So that is of no use for you dear.

Search for the exact keywords relevant to your product/service.

the thing is you get good traffic in your website with "cheap hotels" in starting.but it is not long term beneficial for your website because if some one come in your website for cheap hotel and you dnt provide cheap service then the user will go back and search for other sites but next time user not click to your website url.

You are confused. Nobody with a legit luxury hotel would be worried
about SEO, beyond the normal simple stuff that everybody does.
      If even that.

And if you did not know that, get out of the hotel biz.

Ditto for any other similar offline business.

Wouldn't it be great if we could say your organization offers a tax preparation software solution for small businesses? The main keyword you use as targeted keywords is "tax preparation software," which as a result gets 22,200 quests a month. On the other hand, a searcher searching for "tax preparation for software" may not simply be a minor entrepreneur. It could be a normal individual that is intrigued in doing their own taxes, an assessment preparer searching for approaches to improve their business with new programming that ought to handle tax preparation in-house. While the greater part of the aforementioned individuals requires "tax preparation software" none of them need your item, which indulges modest entrepreneurs. Regardless of the fact that you could rank well for such a wide keyword, chances are a considerable measure of guests going to your site wouldn't be your targeted traffic. What's the purpose of getting more traffic in the event that it's the wrong traffic?
A more proper keyword might be "small business tax preparation software." Although it just gets 110 quests a month, it is on the cash for keyword relevancy. You could likewise target variations like "small business tax software" I.e. 1,500 searches or "small business tax return software" 28 searches that are very relevant.
