Brand New Niche site, need help

Hey everyone,

I just started a brand new niche site and I'm needing help on optimizing the pages.

I hope this is about to make sense...

I have built a few niche sites before but none of them got too far, I've gone through quite the learning curve. Now I'm finally ready to fully commit to this one but I'm stuck. In the past I used Bring The Fresh's ebook to set up my blog posts, I'm not sure what its called but it had a section on checkmarking certain boxes, setting up tags, and something with the "uncategorized" part in wordpress.

I feel like an idiot, but can you guys please help? I know my posts aren't set up to be fully optimized, so far all I've done is make sure there are permalinks. It's even more confusing to me this time because wordpress has had a few updates since I attempted my last niche site. When I went back to BTF's ebook I couldn't even follow along anymore because the update is so different now.

Point me the right way?

So first you ned to set up your WP theme. Title and subtitle. Next is you need to install few plugins and optimize them:
        • All in one SEO pack
        • XML Google sitemap
        • Post order
        • Social maven (optional)
        • terms and services

This are essential one. Pay attention when you activate and set up All in one SEO because is very important. Choose your title, description and keywords.
        Next you set up category.

Start writing your first post. If you have any question PM me.

Thanks, already did all in one pack but I don't think correctly, so I'm looking into it again. I will start the other plugins.

Luna522 actually you don't need to do too much for it. Just make sure the site has a good search engine friendly architecture as well as looking natural. You can use target keywords inside of titles, category, page body etc. Most importantly do some internal linking using the keywords as anchor texts (or putting keywords into the title of the backlink pages). XML sitemap is good for large websites. Thats all. No need to give extra concentration on keyword density, LSIs, bold or highlight keywords using keywords into headings, meta tags, meta description etc. These will make the site/page spammy and unnatural.

Are you talking about Onpage optimization? If so then make sure a good internal linking pattern is established.

Yes, that's what I'm trying to figure out. Thank you.

Before you go build a new niche site I'd recommend you to take your time to plan your strategies.

You can hardly make money with 'micro' or 'mini' niche sites now,
What's proven to survive various google updates are authority sites that contain a lot of content and provide value to visitors.

First you will need to do some keyword research, this has not changed a lot but keep in mind that exact match domain does not carry significant advantage like it used to be.
Next, you will need a lot of unique content, at least about 10x 500 words articles.
You need to optimize those articles, but don't over-do it. You will need to format them properly.

You also need to setup your site correctly, uncategorized is the default Wordpress post category, you can change it in Dashboard > Post > Categories and then edit the Uncategorized category to rename it into something else.

Finally you should create inter-link between your articles.

After you have done all of this you will have to bring traffic to your site, by backlinking, paid traffic etc.

The uncategorized section needs to be removed and instead of that put a name depending on the site's niche. Install SEO by Yoast plugin which will help you optimize internal links.
All In One SEO is another good option.
I know all of this sounds very confusing. So the best thing you can do is go to Youtube and search for some videos on setting up a site with Wordpress. If pictures are worth 1k words then videos should atleast be 10k right.
I have many niche sites and I know starting the first one is always daunting.

Let me know if you have any other doubts

When you're done following the great advice of most of the people above you, you can do a quick meta tag analysis of your homepage and a few inner pages to make sure it's set up correctly.

Meta Tag Analyzer | Meta Tags Help is a good one. They give you a score of 100 and show you what that URL will look like in search engine results.

There's nothing much to optimize in WP
Make sure you post/page title is the same as they keyword you are targeting. That's basically it. Of course you can tweak your meta desc. as well, but I wouldn't put too much effort in it since Google will bring out the most relevant description by itself.

Just make sure you deindex or block robots from crawling pointless pages such as: tags, author and category/page2-page3 etc. You can do that by using Yoast plugin.

Did you use H1 tag for your main keyword and H2 for your secondary keywords (MAX 3 for every page)... Also take the time to add UNIQUE title and description for EVERY page of your wordpress blog! Don't forget about alt and title tags and also... ONLY UNIQUE CONTENT!!!
