advertising for backlink service

On Flippa you always these website which offer Backlink services which spend like 100-200 dollars on advertising yet bring in like 2-4k a month in profits?
does anyone know what traffic sources these guys use? they all say that they only reveal this to the people who win the auction yet with nearly every seo site they spent less than $500 on advertising and bring in loads of profits..
these are not scam sites either i've seen some really reputable sellers on their selling these kind of website saying that in that buisness they can spend less on advertising because profit margins are higher, but I'm just wondering what kind of traffic source they use. they all normally say cpm so do you think they are just buying ad space from somewhere like buysellads on about 2-3 websites?
