Bookmarking your articles on other sites - good or bad SEO?

Hi folks,

I've written a few articles (and had some written for me) and posted them on my blog. I've waited until they're indexed and then submitted them to a few article directories (with a few alterations). People have read the articles and decided to post them on their own blogs. So I'm now getting a few pingbacks because of the backlinks in the articles.

Is it a good idea to social bookmark your articles on the 3rd party blogs so that your links get noticed? Granted your links will probably get noticed in time anyway. Is this good for SEO or are you helping these other sites to rank above you by bookmarking them?

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this please!

Thanks!

Yes, any backlinks are useful for SEO .. Pretty much that simple :-)

Good idea to spin the title and desc when you post to different places.. Maybe bookmark the main page and a few pillar articles.. I wouldn't bookmark every post on a blog however

This one is a tough one really and its based purely on what you prefer to achieve.

      Let me explain...

Yes - it's a good move to bookmark those other blogs, as not only will it bring more attention to your article (and link within your article), but it will also help your social bookmarking accounts be a bit more varied, in sites that you submit.

If you keep adding your own site, you'll soon get penalised.

However, as you mentioned, it will help their blog page rank as they are getting links to it that you arent.

Now, this isnt necessarily all that bad. As the more powerful their page becomes, the more power can be passed on through your link.

The links going to their post are unlikely to have anchor text links via you bookmarking them - but your link in your article does (or should do ) - therefore - that will be (arguably) more beneficial to you.

Like I say - its not "bad" as such, its more how you look at things and want to achieve. Either way - in my opinion - sacrifices something.
