What should my next step be?

I started a blog and business website and placed content on it. I have been updating it every couple of weeks. I purchased 5000 credits on socialadr to bookmark all my content. I was thinking of also purchasing a $49 subscription to onlywire. I just put up a new article and I tweeted it, had a small campaign on justretweet, and also submitted it to a handful of sites. This got me about 30 visitors according to alexa, which is actually a nice improvement from a normal day of 2-4 visitors. I've done some guest blogging on sites and blog commented, but it hasn't been bringing traffic my way yet.

Anyway, I checked and I don't even have a pagerank according to google and I have had the site for 4 months. I have never had a single comment on any of my articles, no one has submitted a single email address for my site to keep up to date with my content. As far as the business end of the site, I have never been contacted from anyone in any way whatesoever and I offer a free phone consultation.

Should I just hang it up and cut my losses here or is this a somewhat normal start? What should my next step be to get some traffic, create activity on my site, comments, etc. I could put money into this, that and the other and if its not helping, its not doing me any good. I would really like to invest in something that will bring some results.

Thanks for any input. I really enjoy reading the forum.

Thanks Simon. I will do some more work on kw research. My main keyword has been my domain name, but I don't even know how competitive it is, so I need to do a little research. I bought some information on how to do that, so I guess I will see how that goes. Great information about the page rank too, I was worried about that.

A few things I have tried over the past couple of weeks to get some tips from you guys.

I started a stumbleupon ad campaign to drive traffic and I am still not getting anyone to sign up for my mailing list or even commenting on my articles or anything, even though I do get about 50 visitors a day now (at a cost). I am thinking of creating a landing page to help me with this rather than relying on the mailing request on my sidebar that must be getting ignored.

I also got someone to provide me a list of low competition keywords for my niche. Now that I have some words to focus on, I was wondering....should go back and edit these keywords into all my past articles where they would be relevant and also include them in the tags, etc?

Should that help me see a great improvement over time?

        Thanks.
