Gplus button not appearing in research results

This might be a stupid question... but I can't see the google plus button for any web sites in the search results (even when I drag the cursor over the URL) regardless of whether I'm signed into my gplus account or not. Could someone please tell me why this is happening?

    Are you using the drop down menu to share? The drop down menu
    gives cache and share, if logged in. Cache and similar if not.

    Perhaps there is some setting making it seem you are not logged in.

      Ok thanks... I overlooked the share option... you used to drag your cursor over the link and a transparent gplus1 logo appeared... at least that is what I was expecting... I thought I could gplus 1up from the search results.. in the same way as the gplus1 button is used on webpages as opposed to just share... I know you can Gplus one google pages from search... I thought it was the same for any web page...
