Anybody have tips on purchasing domain names already listed in dmoz directory? Does this already listed domain name available to register have any more value than a non-listed domain name?

You're basically asking a very broad question, which is how do I assess the value of a website.

A assumption can be made that you're trying to purchase sites with a head start in SEO

Given this assumption, I can say most certainly nowadays, you're better off starting from scratch at your stage of the game.

There's a lot that can be taught on this subject, and for me to dive into it can be overwhelming.

Hi Clint, yes I suppose that it true that I am trying to purchase a 'domain name' with a head start. Not necessarily a website. If back-links are so important, does Dmoz already linking to a domain name, bring any value for back-link purposes. I have several domain names in the same category, but was curious to know if one of the five domain names already has an advantage over the others.

I wouldn't have specifically thought DMOZ linking there gives any advantage over another high-authority site. Indeed, directories have less and less Google love I think these days, far better to have a few links from major .edu or news sites.

Anyway, it's pretty hard to find dropped domains that are in DMOZ, there are like 500 IMers running XENU on there 24-7 trying to find broken links, LOL, so you can only find them at auction, probably at a somewhat inflated price...

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

There isn't a specific place where you can buy a website listed on Dmoz.

My best best is to visit Godaddy Auction and run any site you want to bid on Traffic Travis to acertain it's listed on Dmoz.

Frankly, there are some values attached to listing your site on Dmoz but nothing really serious to worry about.

I have seen tons of high ranking sites that weren't listed on Dmoz and it holds nothing against them in terms of SERP performance.

Hey, thanks for all the feedback thus far. I currently purchase dmoz domain names that lead to a dead page. If I find a dead page and the domain name is available, I purchase that domain name.

The question is are these dmoz finds really valuable?

It used to be said, back in the day 2008/9, that a dmoz or yahoo directory link was worth its weight in gold. I very much doubt that now.

I agree - I look at a lot of dropped domains, and when I see a lot of web directories in the backlink profile I walk right on by. At the end of the day, links on directory sites share a lot of outbound links with other sites and the link is self-serving at the end of the day, i.e. placed there by the site owner (even if the directory is heavily moderated), and in the case of some directories even paid for, obviously. So although of course DMOZ has very high authority, I doubt there is anything that magical about DMOZ-listed domains. Give me a high-PR in-context .edu link, any day.

There are many ways to achieve this. I ll list some of them

    1. auctions.godaddy.com have many DMOZ listed domains starting at buy now price
    2. Many forums are dedicated for buying and selling domains. Create a post with title 'WTB DMOZ listed domain' and you will get enough responses. Always look for sellers with good reputation. Otherwise you may get scammed.
    good luck
