using contests to promote authority sites

hey guys question for you...
So ive got an authority site thats getting decent traffic and is making about $200 in ad revenue a month... im looking to obviously expand my audience as much as possible and have been tinkering with the idea of running a monthly contest. I like the Rafflecopter contest platform as it looks to be a good way to expand my web 2.0 audience and raise significant referral traffic.
The prizes would obviously be products in my niche, I would (try) to get free products from sponsors if possible, but it's likely id end up spending some money out of pocket one way or another.
Does anyone have any experience running a contest like this specifically on an authority site monetized with adsense?
