Ultimate Whitehat SEO with latest update?

So I just acquired a customer in a very competitive niche (medical). The product they will be launching very shortly is, literally, life-saving. It is going to be BIG.

That being said, I don't want to mess ANYTHING up on their SEO campaign. If I have to pay $10 for a unique article for every post I make on websites - I'll do it.

I'm here to ask everyone -- what do you consider to be 100% whitehat SEO to rank tough keywords with? Obviously social media will play a huge part in this strategy. After that, I just want confirmation on what YOU think is the best way to build links.

        Completely agree. My guess though is it is something a little more dodgy.

    If the website is authority site with some good PR pages then PR backlinks from inner pages will help to achieve good ranking. Also try broken link building (probably not 100% white hat) from authority and relevant sites. Also you can contact with good authority site owners and can get backlinks from their sites which I found very helpful in the end. OP 100% white hat is not possible as far as I know. But little gray hat SEO will be good enough if you carefully delete footprints.

    you need to hit the phones and contact bloggers etc and get them to link back to you without payment.

    Infographics where you write a guest blog post to go along with it maybe.
    Stay away from anchor text for true white hat.

    Think $100-200 per link for real white style stuff.

      That's an good advice. You could also buy ad space on very close topic-related websites. When it comes down to clean white hat SEO remember always to read the instructions on the Google Webmaster Tools.

    Go for Google authorship since the latest algorithm update which is the Hummingbird is for conversational search queries. Meaning content will be more important than ever.

    If this product is legit, and life-saving like you say, they probably do not need to do any SEO. By legit, I mean years of clinical studies, FDA approval if it is a pharmaceutical, etc. All they will need to do is a few press releases, some television and radio spots, some social media work, and outreach to appropriate news media outlets. If they are the only provider of this product, they want to do branding for the product and company. The ranking will come on its own then.

    However, I kind of doubt this product is all that legit. Companies launching something like that do not comb the WSO section for an SEO provider. I'm guessing it is more like something with big promises and is going to be sold through an MLM model. They are more likely to look for an SEO around here, but I could be wrong.

    Anyhow, to answer the question about white hat SEO, I agree with others. You need to get on the phone, start sending out emails, etc. Beg, buy, trade, and beg some more for links. They don't have to be guest posts either. Some sites maintain a "Helpful Resources" type of page that may be appropriate to link to your client.

    Things I would absolutely avoid:

    Profile links
    Forum links
    Signature links
    Article dumps
    Wiki's (real ones like Wikipedia are fine)
    Guestbook links
    Blog commenting
    2.0 sites outside of the popular ones like Tumblr, Wordpress, Blogger, Wetpaint, etc.
    Anything offered on Fiverr or the WSO section of this forum

      Thank you very much for the in-depth reply Mike. This client was actually introduced to me by a local hosting company, and we met face-to-face yesterday. He showed me the product and the effects it has had on people... and all I can say is wow! Yes, it does have years of studies, and is in fact FDA approved. They do have a handful of competitors (that are extremely over-priced compared to these guys, and don't carry a long shelf-life), so the keywords I will be targeting at first would be variances of:

      "product"
      "product vs competitor1...2...3"

      And other related terms that you NEED to be ranked #1 for when the product is released massively to the public. How unprofessional would you look to medical clinics if they search for "product" in Google and your website isn't #1 .

      Anyways, thanks again for the advice!

    If you really want to this alone, then get yourself some money. Preferably 10k for creating content that acquires natural links + VA who is just sending e-mails and phoning 24/7.

      Like Online Only said, this will take money. I would look into Help A Reporter Out (HARO), if it's truly something as good as you claim. I've done some work through them, and it's a great way to get links from news agencies. Mind you, if I secure a link through HARO, I'm going to expect $250, minimum (if it's a small-time news agency), up to $1,000 (CNN, NYTimes, etc.).

      I would also start contacting journalists directly. Call newspapers and magazines and give them the story behind the product.

      This approach will help with both SEO, brand management and brand-name recognition.
