Moving Website Content From One Site To Another....

Hi Warriors,

I have two websites. One is doing quite well, the other has been abandoned somewhat.

I'd like to move the content (around 15 pages) from the abandoned website to the good one.

I was simply going to copy/paste the content across and then delete the old pages. Would this affect the SEO of my good website? I'm wondering if there would be some sort of duplication penalty?
Would the migrated pages hold their positions in the rankings? (I'm guessing not).

Your help is much appreciated!!!

You can certainly copy from the abandoned site onto the new one, but be sure to 301 redirect the deleted pages to their respective pages on your good site.

For example, you are abandoning neglected.com and want to transfer the content to goodsite.com. You have the article "http://www.neglected.com/widget-a.html" and move it over to "http://www.goodsite.com/widget-a.html". All you would need to do is put this in the .htaccess of neglected.com, and repeat for each article being moved:
    Redirect 301 /widget-a.html http://www.goodsite.com/widget-a.html

    That way, you:
    a) Get to keep any link juice the old pages had,
    b) Don't get hit for any duplicate content, and
    c) Are able to concentrate traffic onto one site

If you want to do all the listed above items that wouldn't be a bad idea. Although, to be honest, 15 pages isn't a big deal.

I would redirect the whole domain to the new site or if there is links to pages 301 those to the new pages.

I wouldn't stress this very much to be honest.

We've done this a few times with 100's of pages, and had no issue. Although, redirect to be better safe then sorry.

Just be sure to redirect it as mentioned above. You won't get any problems. You can of course check Copyscape before posting to see if there are ANY other websites that the content was added too, if you own BOTH of the sites, there won't be any problem!

If you're moving a website content form website A to B and delete the pages of Website ( B), Then i think redirection is not the best solution, you can use the link=canonical meta tags in the B website pages of Website Page A. And not delete the pages of website B. Google see the link canonical tags in B and count A pages as the main pages of website.
