First Question..

My blog when I make a post automatically duplicates that post into a forum topic with a link pointing from bog post to forum topic, and vice versa.

Is this bad on my behalf as that it will be classisifed as duplicate content?

The only reason Im doing it is to increase forum activity..

Is it a bad idea I should scrap?

Second question..

Recripocal linking isn;t anywhere near as effective as it used to be.

What about internal recripocal links?

Thanks.

    Hey there,

Hmmm, my answer won't be a definitive one I'm afraid but I will try and help out...

Right, so the forum is on your site too, or a seperate domain? If it's on your site too (even in a sub directory/domain) then yeah the duplicate content isn't a wise idea.

I can see your reason for doing it, but it might do more harm than good. Maybe you can just have a summary in the forum post version and link back to the full version on the blog? At least that way - the content won't be so blatant.

As far as internal reciprical linking is concerned, it actually does have it's uses. It's one technique to get a double listing in Google - so arguably its more effective than external reciprical linking.

    Hope that helps.
