Hi Warrior Friends, Please help me regarding web 2.0 marketing. My old strategy before penguin 2.1 was to make 500 words unique content based web 2.0 links with anchored text full diversity. But since this new update I read on a lot of websites that crappy web 2.0 marketing made the penalty. Since I had around 25 web 2.0 websites that were linking to my money site. So I will have to delete all web 2.0s now ? Kindly advise me... Thanks

Google demote sites for publishing low quality content and content submitted on low quality sites. If your all 26 websites have Good traffic and social sharing, you can post your content with unique anchor text. If your all websites don not have traffic, remove all contents and post it on high authority article sites. You can get some good traffic atleast.

Until and unless you have unique content being posted in each of them and also ensure that you give preference to keywords of brandname as anchor text rather than exact match keywords, you will remain safe from getting penalized.

You should be fine if you varied up your anchor text.

The people who got screwed from this last update are the people who had thousands of Web 2.0's, with spun content.

There is nothing inherintly wrong about a web 2.0. It is just a website like any other website. The problem is with the quality of the content on them. When you have pure crap hosted on them, you cant expect Google to reward you forever.

If you create high quality web 2.0's, with great content, then these are good links. THAT SAID.. there are much better uses of your time. How about create some awesome content for your own site? Or perhaps find a way to guest post on an authority site in your niche.

We are at a stage now where 1 good link is better than 1000 crap, gamed links, by a long way. So why not focus on something that has long term value and doesn't increase the risk factor of getting penalized?

In addition to what MMN said - web 2.0s were used alot by link builders as the final tier in multiple tiered linkbuilding. If the plan was to use tools like GSA to blast them then its might be good to know that it seems tiered link building took a slap in the last update and will extremely likely continue to be slapped in future updates.

These web20's that are supposedly to blame for "tanking" their sites with the new penguin were most likely 'blasted' with low quality links. They were either stripped of their value (leaving them with an empty link profile), or the penalty is filtering through to the site immediately below it, which is in most peoples cases, their main site. For some, that's all they had.. they had no other quality links to hold them up, both their web20s and their main site.

That's the key word right there.. crappy web 2.0 marketing. No crappy anything is going to make the grade anymore, web20 marketing or not. Treat your web20's as though they were your own personal sites.. would you throw garbage at your main site? Of course not. I also don't want to hear how "unique" or "quality" their web20's were.. did you blast the crap out of them? (Or I should say, blast the crap into them!) That's why.

p.s. I'm not saying to stop going after links, even low quality ones.. that's up to you. What I am saying, as I think I must've repeated like 10 times, is that now it's just as dangerous to hammer a bazillion links in one night to any site as it is your main site. People have noticed this blasting effect on their web20's over a year ago. Now I think they just turned the dial up a bit. Probably quite a bit.

p.p.s. This just in.. other reports I've been reading have been about any web20 in the chain containing obvious spun content affecting the entire chain. Hard to say if it's this or blasting, as the two in most cases go hand in hand. Probably both, actually. Again this comes down to bad practices, and treating every site/page you post as though it was your own site.

Any regards to them not being able to penalize (or more likely devalue i.e. lessen juice flow) because of obvious spun content or blasting, because of possible negative seo activity, there's a catch to that. If you have a good link profile to begin with, you shouldn't be affected. Not that you absolutely won't, you can.. it's just the more solid your link profile, the less negative effect it will have.

I just want to end by saying to Roosevelt E. Roosevelt, what it is, what it shall be, what it was.
