The sites that you can sell your phone to Ussell and Gizelle.

Just wondering if these sites would be quite hard to outrank for some of the big keywords related to selling your phone?

I've kind of glanced at them as far as backlinks and social signals ect and they have quite a bit. I have a friend who wants me to set up a site for just his company because he does the same thing and I've never gone up against big authority sites like that before.

Just looking for some experts thoughts on difficulty of outranking them

There is nothing impossible in the world of internet but you should prepare yourself to compete against some monsters. Are you in a position to stay in the race for a long time, perhaps spend a ton of cash and time? Your website or your friend's will need more, better and stronger links and contents than those web portals. It's like saying launching a brand-new directory which is going to get better and more popular than DMOZ. Although being technically possible, but will demand huge resources to get implemented.

I agree with Bermuda. It certainly won't be an easy task to get established and compete with those sites you mentioned. That being said, you can compete if you have enough resources and understand it will take a very long time to compete with those companies that are already established in the industry. Now, it would be much easier to get the lower hanging fruit type of keywords while still targeting your niche. Be prepared to publish a lot of content and gain a ton of backlinks.

I have to agree with the two gentlemen who have already applied to this post. Going against monster sites like this will take time, money and a lot of dedication. You will need a lot of patience and be prepared to stay the course to get there.

Larry makes a good point which I would second. Why not look to make a quicker ROI and build up your online presence that way by targeting areas with less competition.

I applaud you for thinking big and there are several ways to get there and starting small and thinking about creating running capital by targeting less competitive areas of your niche may well help you to sustain yourself and keep you motivated by seeing a ROI as you grow.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll be certainly going after the easier keywords to start with, but I was just kind of curious over time if it would be possible to beat them once his site builds trust in Googles eyes. As long as it's possible then I'll be giving a try
