Just wondering if other have experience a big drop in Adsense earnings on their youtube videos.

About two years ago, when I first monetized some youtube videos I had, they generated some income. It was not much as there were only a few videos and not much traffic.

Since then, I have added a number of videos and certainly am getting more views than back then. However, I rarely get noticeable earnings.

I only use overlay ads as the primary goal of the videos is views and traffic, but that is all I have ever used.

Did Google make some changes that have cut down on average earnings for everyone??

Maybe viewers are more immune to ads now. Also, the over lay ads are annoying. The ads that run at the start of the video will get more attention.

If you have consistent traffic volume try the preroll ads that force traffic to watch the ad at the beginning of the video.

As you suggest pre-roll ads are working better now. Also, another idea that will keep the Youtube user from clicking on the skip ad link once the waiting period is up. Some of these ads are skipped by users, but I think they monetize just for playing not just click through. And, ideally you will earn a generous amount of money from that.
