Which do you feel is better for local SEO, city name in the URL or area code in the URL? Example: ###dogtrainingdotcom or citydogtrainingdotcom

Do you feel it would be easier to rank for area code or city name?

Any thoughts?

All the best,
Michael

Either would work. I imagine there is much more searchers for citydogtraining.com but you could target both with the same domain - exact match domains don't have the juice they used too.

Unless you are really in that city, why add the city? if you are,
then you should be relying on local, maps, YP, newspapers, etc.

Why on earth would an area code mean anything?!?!?!?!

I cannot believe you people even come up with that nonsense.

Since numbers all over the world are different and have different meanings,
I cannot even fathom why anyone would even think of such a thing.

Take 714 for example... 420? What do you people do all day long other
than come up with this stuff?

If you were disappointed in your results today, lower your standards tomorrow.

Why not add the City and State, as some cities share the same name but in different states. If you also try to rank for city/state vs city, you would likely have better local searches.

Maybe OP meant zip code instead of area code?

BTW Google does know how to parse out area codes (standard footprint for phone numbers)

    Area codes 657 and 714
Area codes 657 and 714 are in California. The map to the right is now clickable; click on an area code to go to the page for that area code. The area codes in red are Area Codes 657 and 714; all others in blue are California area codes. Wikipedia
Location: California (primarily serves Anaheim, Orange, Huntington Beach, ...)
