Did I do something wrong?

I'm new to SEO. But I did some keyword research, and bought an exact match domain for a good keyword. After I made an article, I optimized the page, bolded..tags...underline...and built about 6 backlinks.

Day 2 I was on page 4. But now its day 5 and I'm on page 100, but I'm ranked 34 for Yahoo and 28 for Bing. Did I do something wrong? I plan on building more content, but have I been red flagged or anything?

This is normal, Google normally puts new content near the top for a little bit, and then adjusts the position.

Maybe this isn’t your problem, but, I’ve had things like this happen to me also. In fact, I wrote a lengthy article a few weeks ago and it was ranking on 4th page for most relevant search phrase. Then when I searched for the article a week later, I found it in Google (like page 40), but when I did a plagiarism check it didn’t return any matches in Google. It was like Google wouldn’t recognize the text or something. Anyway, I’ve had things like this happen to me before and noticed if I changed the title and resubmit it to the Google URL submission form it would reindex the page text. Actually, when I changed the title and resubmitted the link, the article went to the first page. Like I said, maybe its not your problem but its worth looking into.

Did you use original content in the article?
Did you use diversified keywords in your anchor text?
    Did you stuff your keywords?

Its original. All of my backlinks are to directories rss feeds, and social bookmarks..so I think it is just my http link. Only a total of 6 links so far.

Its a 1400 word article and I mentioned my main keyword 3 times. I did feel like I was stuffing, simply because I would never typically write for keywords.

Then it sounds like you penalized your page with to many garbage links.

6 backlinks is too many? They were high pr...feedage..delicious..digg..plus I am waiting for dmoz and ezine to approve the article.

Bookmarking a page on a high PR site doesn't make a difference if the page is NA. Also, if you have a brand new site, and your trying to get into dmoz, not going to happen...unless your paying your way in. 6 links might be enough to penalize you, who's really to say. Maybe if someone looks at the page they can give you a better answer.

Google continuously update itself. When it finds new story it ranks it higher but later on lower after finding new content relevant to that story and try to rank websites logically.

Too soon to tell, although you may have over optimized your site.

Best advice: Do not optimize too heavily for a keyword. Create more useful content. Get some good links if possible.

But most importantly, keep taking action. Also give things a bit of time to see results. Your content will bounce around a lot, its almost guaranteed with new sites.
