Strictly SEO for Traffic

What do you guys think about this? Is it a good approach?

What do you think about the advice some people give...

"Focus on low search volume, low competition, long tail keywords."

For example:

Focus putting up content with an emphasis on a keyword that...

Gets 720 searches a month, low competition, and a keyword like this:

"Best way to make money by blogging."

Is this a good approach to do things IF...

You have time to do 3 or 4 good, quality posts a day?

Would love to hear everyone's opinion. If it's not...what is and why?

Generally speaking this is a good strategy. Although there are a lot of pitfalls and different things to consider whilst implementing it (too many to list within a couple of minutes).

There are however many more ways to get visitors to your site than just through Google. Different traffic methods can increase your business geometrically. Think about where your potential customers hang out and try and engage them their.

Well, I don't have potential customers.

      I only have potential readers/visitors.

And it's a very broad site so its "base" is literally everywhere.

Here, Google, dating sites, Facebook, ESPN, you name it.

Have you tried this method directly? What kind of results did you get?

Your readers and visitors are your customers.

    What market are you targeting?

I earn a living through content sites. My main source of traffic is SEO, of that, its mostly longtail traffic.

Yeah, that's a good strategy, focus on long taily keywords, they're much easier to rank than those with high search volume.

As for monetizing the blog, why not place header and side banners on your blog for some hot products that convert well and which are related to your blog.

I'm aiming towards the weird news market. (trends, news, etc)

Earn a living as in, paying all your bills?

Not to be modest but...you look young.

Do you still live at home or earn a living on your own?

Not being rude in any way, just curious for research reasons.

      Thanks again!

I've thought about that. Right now I have a banner ad at the top of the page.

Any suggestions of an affiliate ad I could stick on the sidebar?

      And thanks for the advice!

Oh, and any advice on "news" related long tail keywords?

They seem to be tough to find unless I do it per post.

Mark Zuckerberg looks young, what does age have to do with it?

I do pretty okay money wise.

Well, I meant that you look "still live at home young."

      The reason I ask is...

If you make a living off content but your only bill is a cell phone.

      I wouldn't be impressed lol.

But if you paid rent, car insurance, utilities, groceries, etc.

All off of your website, I'd be impressed.

I currently do that off of my web business...

But not off of my websites if that makes sense.

(And I don't think Zuckerberg looks THAT young).

Again, no offense, was just merely curious.

Now, back to the SEO discussion. Anyone else have feedback on this?
