I have a movies website hxxp://www.noobmovies.com . I know it's a tough niche. I'm still developing the site to make it look better, but I wanted some advice on what I should do to boost search traffic. I'm still new but most of my traffic is not coming from Google. I tend to get between 70 to 100 visitors a day, mostly through direct traffic.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

That is one competitive niche you have there and a lot of people still seem to have the interest to go for it. I’m not really sure if this would work but try making movie reviews on the films related to the theme of your website. Also, encourage interaction among your visitors to maintain or increase the traffic that you already get.

Yeah I want to add the ability for movie bloggers to write a quality review in exchange for a backlink to their blog or website (maybe financial motivation in the future) but I want them to be held accountable for their reviews which means I need to create an entire profile system which can rank movie reviewers. This ultimately translates to a ton of code I need to write which will probably take a few months at a minimum. In the meantime I do plan to add a review section for my personal reviews. It will be on each movie page, but it's not going to be in your face type of thing since it's my personal review.

I want to become a self proclaimed movie critic. Hell, I figure if I own the website I should have the right to write a review for the movie. Each critic is still just an opionion despite a journalism degree. Each star rating the movies currently have are done based on an algorithm I created. I want to maintain the independence between personal opinion and aggregated opinion.

Every week I see improvements in the code and improvements in the traffic. Once I have a solid site built I will then make it responsive so it shrinks and expands based upon the device viewing it. It's actually my specialty as a programmer.

All in all, I know it's a tough niche but I love movies and I like to code so I feel like I can make this compete with other major movie websites eventually (probably years down the road).

You already know that it is not that easy to succeed in the niche that you have. So, in addition to what chawk has said, I suggest that you try to make your website really unique. Stick to a theme, as much as you can and build an interesting trademark.

I think also it needs something more unique.
More communication with the visitors, a forum or a chat for discussion.
Weekly best of lists or something that the visitors come back.
      Free Newsletter with film reviews....

I've made some movie lists with the best films of several categories, but I think even that will not keep them coming back.
A Facebook fan page with updates should also help.
or in the forum, daily TV schedule with discussions to films...
      just a few ideas.

Thanks for the advice guys, In the following months I will be able to focus on content more. Currently about 30% of my daily traffic is return traffic. When compared to other sites I've created this is a much higher figure than anything I've done in the past.

Good to know! Yes to focusing on producing content for your website. Do it on a regular basis and do your best to encourage your visitors to be involved. Also, you should never afford to lose visitors. Just be innovative in handling your website and, as much as possible, do not allow any space for your organic visitors to go elsewhere.

    Couple ideas:

Inc a 'notify me when someone reviews this film' type option on your comments.

'reviews', 'critique' and 'reviews of' would be good words to inc in your titles and headers.
