I need to setup a campaign tommorow asap for products im promoting and with all the feedback of google basically bitch slapping every move you make unless you have the right keywords in the right group, the right amount and the right pages.. its all a bit damn confusing.

Could someone share some clear advice on making sure that I can get in there and at least get something setup tommorow.

I have 2 categories im dealing with related to the products

Auto
Music

Should i make a group for each category and then how many keywords can i put in per group?

Should each keyword go to its own page?

Should each keyword have its own ad or 2 ads per group?

thanks kindly for a moment of your time

set up one ad campaign called: Autos.. do the same for music

set up an adgroup for Autos, and name it, say: Motors, Motor Boats, Motor Parts, Michelin Tires, etc

Set up another ad group inside your music ad campaign and name them:

Guitar Lessons, Piano Lessons, Music DVD's, etc, etc

Then inside each ad group, add ONE keyword, set it to [EXACT MATCH] per ad group. make sure it's highly related, or even better, name your adgroup the same as the keyword you're bidding on.

Place your keyword in title, and in one description line, at least... and in your domain name, and place a foward slash followed by your keyword

bid on your keyword, double the amount google recommends, google doesn't like tight skates, make them think you can afford the costs.

set daily budget of around $20 or so.. then increase it after you gain account history with them, this will drive more traffic to your site.

wait for your CTR to double.. look at your results and see what avarage CPC is, add 50% to it... and lower your exiting CPC down to the new CPC price... keep doing this every 24-36 hours or so until you have otpimized the campaign.

turn off content network, put this in its own ad campaign... turn off partner network and place these in it's own ad campaign too. This keeps everything nice and neat and manageable, and speeds up reviewing time for the staff rather than wading through heaps of keywords for them to see which ones are related or not, or up to their guidelines.

do the same with [exact match], "phrase match", broad match... place these in their associating ad campaign, but in different ad group...

Yup, each keyword should go to a related page

All of this will be your testing bed... head over to google analytics, and see which demographics are giving you the most visits.. then pause your testing bed campaigns, and set up a new one with the new demographics for your targeted towns, cities, etc...

whole process should take about 2-4 weeks, then more tweaking after, for about a month or so. then you're ready to rock and roll.

    p.s
if you really want to get fancy with it all, and get results like [exact match] by using broad match only, then you can use embedded negative match... to make it appear like exact match and pull out 1-15 cent clicks

    Hope this helps

Some times, work is needed in order to do things the right way to pull off the maximum results

Nope, this is normal practice... because if you add content network, search network, partner network, exact match, phrase match broad match all in one ad group, with 100's of keywords, your CTR drops, which results in higher costs for your keywords... since the entire amount is calculated together...

      for instance

1 keyword receives 100 clicks on 1000 impressions, ad group CTR = 10% ==> cheaper clicks ==> more targeted ads

10 keywords receives in total 10 clicks on 2000 impressions, ad group CTR = 5% ==> less targeted ads..

You're seriously doing it the wrong way, trust me.

A friend of mine who's been doing Adwords for 4 years used to spend £35,000 - £45,000 a month on advertising with google, he thought he had it down pat...

I asked him, what was his CTR and how much was he paying per keyword...

He said his CTR was about 1-3% and paying £1.00 - £2.85 per click... and since he was doing this for clients, he didn't really mind and his customers were already happy with the traffic and sales they were making from his work...

So i gave him the same tips I gave you... he spent the next 5 months or so restructuring his campaigns to the letter...

After 8 months, I asked him how he was getting on.

He said the first month after modifying two clients campaigns, his cost per click dropped by 70-80% and his traffic increased by 40-50%.. his clients as a result made more sales...

Dude... I was a member of Staff at the PPC Classroom in Las Vegas about a year ago... I learned from the best (Anik Singal, and Jeremy Palmer), and since Amit, his new partner came on board for PPC Classroom 2.0, I learned even more and reduced my cost per clicks even more.

I spend approx $100k a month, some times more, some times less, all depends on the niche and seasonal trend, and return back around 20-45% return on investment (ROI), some months are higher as much as 80-125%

I've created a contact list of over 300,000 people in all sorts of niches.

All using the techniques above, amongst some others from the PPC Classroom course.

I suggest you join up there and check it out yourself

Join their waiting list, and when they re-open, take advantage of it.

Roley 3 weeks ago I was in the same position as you and steamed in, total PPC newbie....I was £800 down in 2 weeks......5 domains dead through going to a 1/10 QS, ill targetted traffic...the lot, I've made just about every mistake.

From experience so far, the advice here from Askloz looks spot on if you want to do it well/properly.

You may be able to shorten initially by only using the top volume keywords...but if you do try to shortcut, can't emphasise enough the importance of landing page/keyword selection at the start and very close monitoring of everything once your ads are running.

Each thread I've read on PPC in the last week has helped me, and this one has added even more. Thanks Askloz

    No worries Chaumi

    btw, it's Loz, not askloz

also, to anyone who feels this process is time consuming, invest yourself into SpeedPPC this does exactly what I mentioned above in regards to campaign structure... then use the adwords editor to make the other changes within 2 minutes

When you say, put the keyword in the domain, what do you mean by that? Like are you referring to the field which displays the domain to the user? in adwords?

How does google treat affiliates? Do you have to setup a page for each product?

Also do you just do it directly in adwords or do you set it up using the editor and software like speedppc?

Roley, I strongly suggest that if you have little or no PPC experience, stop and learn or get someone with lots of experience to do it for you. Otherwise, chances are you'll crash and burn.

Thanks Loz. $100,000 a month! You have balls of steel. I have doubled the bids to the first page bid estimates and removed keywords with a quality score of below 5. Ill montior the next few days and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks for all the help guys.
