How to find footprints

I want to target some UK business websites for getting backlinks. So, I figure a resources page or something might be good for finding useful places to place a link.

Two ideas I had:

1. Use some search operator like: intext:business resuorces intext:submit a site

2. Find backlinks to a site which is similar to my website (about UK business)

For #1, what search operators would you use to find decent targets?

For #2, how would you find backlinks to a site?

Thanks,

Dave

Wait until it snows. The amateur searcher may find it difficult.

      Hey guys,
I am pretty new to this, amateur is probably saying too much for me. I have been trying to understand the concept of FOOTPRINT. Could any of the seasoned pros tell me briefly what it is? I have been googling it without much luck. Also, I have seen some footprints that say something like %KEYWORD% or "keyword" blog site:.edu Do I need to replace that word KEYWORD with my own keyword or should a program like Gscraper change it automatically if I specified which my keywords are?

I apologize if my questions are too basic, but I have not been able to find answers so far.
      Thanks,

A footprint in simple terms, is a common attribute across a specific type of page or platform you are looking for.

        Example.
A wordpress blog would have a common footprint of "powered by wordpress" in the footer of each page.

Websites that accepted guest posts might have a common phrase or sentence on their guest posting page. It might be like "submit your article" or "submit a guest post" "guest posts accepted".

In other words footprints are common occurrences of text you are looking for or appear.

Thanks so much Kevin! I appreciate it. Makes sense. It allows the program to identify platforms to post to. And regarding the footprints that say something like:
          "keyword" blog site:.edu

If I am not wrong, the program should replace those KEYWORD with the keywords that I specified, right? It is not something I should manually do, as I understand.

          Thanks again!

Funnily enough I've helped develop GS with the Chinese boys . There's a built in list of over 15k keywords you could use. And also some basic footprints built in.

If your looking for specific niche relevant sites then you should use your own set of keywords in that box. And your footprints go line by line in the above panel. Its also worth checking the footprints with the index checker, before you start to test the footprints and see what numbers of sites are indexed with that footprint before you start scraping. (Saves time)

Find competitive websites to yours, use 'backlink checkers' to find their backlinks. There are plenty of free ones available. Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch or Backlink Checker are a couple.

See if you can also get those backlinks as well; by contacting those sites, adding comments, link exchanges, etc..
