How to find golden nugget keywords?

Okay so I know Market Samurai's 4 Golden Rules:

1. Relevance
2. Traffic
3. Competition
4. Commerciality

My question is, how do you find these highly profitable keywords manually?

Without the use of tools and all, I would like to start my IM learning journey by learning it brick by brick (I hope I don't sound too mellow dramatic with that. lol.) so that I would NOT RELY HEAVILY with a whole bunch of tools and pay a lot of money upfront.

The sole thing I would want from a tool is to leverage my work load.

Not make things easier.

I'm worried that tools might 'mask' the experience and learning lessons I need to have under my belt.

Just like a skilled carpenter that uses a hi-tech piece of equipment only because he can get the job done faster. The same carpenter can be given the instance that whenever his hi-tech tool breaks down, he can still make wonderful sculptures with his own bare hands.

Hope you catch my drift.

There's no universal rule to finding the "golden nugget keywords" but it seems that they are long-tail. Just imagine a person looking for "shoes" online - incredible competition and probably that person is just browsing. Imagine that same person looking for "nike air max 90 size 10 price" - the competition here will be potentially much lower and this person has practically pulled his/her credit card out ready to buy that product.

You stated the criteria yourself. Look for relevant terms, either by (1) knowing an industry inside and out, (2) getting to know sites in an industry and looking for opportunities (3) using Google's auto-complete (there are websites to help with this).

Then, use Google's keyword planner to compare the traffic and CPC (commerciality). You can double-check these results with sites like SEMRush, Compete, etc., but be aware these will not be fully accurate.

To size up competition, learn about PA, DA, etc. and how to gauge on-site SEO.
